Coach Philippe Troussier has announced the list of players for the Vietnam national team. In this training session, Mr. Troussier has called many new names such as goalkeeper Van Phong (Viettel Club), defender Thai Binh (Thanh Hoa Club), Trung Hieu (Hai Phong Club), midfielders Duc Chien, Van Hao (Viettel Club), Huu Son (Hai Phong Club), or striker Quang Nam (Ha Tinh Club). Besides, the return of names such as Nguyen Duc Chien and Duong Thanh Hao also received a lot of expectations in the call-up list. Nguyen Duc Chien was called up to the Vietnam team to participate in the third qualifying round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Asia in February 2022.

Meanwhile, Duong Van Hao is known as one of the pillars of the U.19 Vietnam team that made history when it won the right to participate in the FIFA U20 World Cup 2017. Unfortunately, a year after that resounding U20 World Cup, Duong Van Hao suffered a very serious injury in a match in the 2018 first division, and was thought to have to retire. But thanks to his strong will and persistent efforts, Duong Van Hao miraculously returned to top-level football when he entered the field in Viettel 's match against HAGL in round 2 of V-League 2020. With my experience in Japan and my time coaching U.23 Vietnam, I understand that the younger the player, the more flexible they are, and they adapt to new things faster.

I don't close the door to any player. However, I have certain player choices in mind. As a coach, I have to predict the performance of the players on the field. I want to give equal opportunities to the players. By the end of October, I will have an ideal list. There are 60 players who can compete for a place in the Vietnam national team. The Vietnam team will regroup to prepare for a friendly match with Palestine, taking place on September 11 at Thien Truong Stadium. This is a competition to help Mr. Troussier evaluate the players' abilities, including their professional level as well as their ability to adapt to a ball-controlling style of play.

To prepare for the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup, the Vietnamese team has two more training sessions, in September and October respectively. After the friendly match with Palestine, Coach Troussier's students will continue to face the Chinese team (October 10), Uzbekistan (October 13) and South Korea (October 17). These are all important friendly matches.

In the second round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese team is in the same group with Iraq, the Philippines and the winner of the first round match between Indonesia and Brunei. The team will begin their journey in the second round of the qualifiers in November.
