Expanding tourism spaces and adding more diverse experiences are activities that the Co To tourism industry is actively implementing to attract tourists during the summer of 2024.
In preparation for the tourist season, starting in early 2024, Co To has launched many vibrant activities such as the Sea Kayak Race, the Thanh Lan commune's sea opening festival, the boat race connecting island districts, and many cultural and sports activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Co To island district, such as the 30km record-breaking swimming race in Co To sea, a photo exhibition of beautiful Co To images, and many special art programs featuring many famous singers and artists.
Co To continues to develop and improve the quality of tours to its three islands, offering unique diving tours on Thanh Lan Island; sea-viewing tours by boat and canoe; a day as a fisherman; hiking and mountain climbing to explore pristine beaches and sedimentary rock formations; and exploring small islands combined with environmental protection activities such as picking up trash.
In addition, helping tourists enjoy pristine tranquility and novel experiences is the direction that Co To is pursuing in its series of 7 newly registered tourism products.
Notable activities include overnight camping on Thanh Lan beach, exploring the pristine paradise of a 7-star island, watching the sunset on Love Beach, experiencing the "Truong Sa" of the Northeast region on Tran Island, cycling through Co To at night, and healing tourism…
Moreover, this summer, visitors to Co To will have the opportunity to experience digital tourism. This includes guided tours via automated audio guides on electric tourist vehicles, and experiencing destinations through a 360-degree VR virtual reality system. Simultaneously, the enhanced 3D digital map and the revamped Cototourism.vn website make it easier for visitors to find information and travel directions.
The district also organizes many tourism promotion activities by inviting KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) to experience Co To tourism, organizing farm trips to widely promote the island on social media, and attracting tourists to participate in tourism fairs.
For the international tourism market, Co To collaborates with the Vietnam National Tourism Administration to host farm trips and international media coverage; participates in major, prestigious international tourism fairs such as the ITE Ho Chi Minh City 2023 Fair, the International Tourism Fair in Da Nang or Can Tho…; and strongly promotes itself on popular travel websites such as Tripadvisor, Booking, and Traveloka…
Scuba diving, along with many other new tourism products, will be launched by Co To district in 2024, promising to bring many new and exciting experiences to tourists.
For the 2024 tourist season, in addition to increasing the number of high-speed ferry services, tourists can also travel to Co To more easily via Hai Au seaplanes, with a journey time of only about 35 minutes, allowing visitors to admire the majestic beauty of landmarks in Ha Long Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay.
The district also provides maximum support for travel agencies and international tourists to visit (international tourists do not need to apply for a permit to visit the island). At the same time, the district is reviewing and improving the quality of tourism infrastructure; strengthening inspection activities, and publicizing the operation of the "hotline"... to protect the rights of tourists and maintain a healthy tourism environment.
Located in the northeastern part of Quang Ninh province, Co To island district has a natural area of over 47 km2, a population of approximately 6,700 people, and more than 30 large and small islands; among them, the three largest islands are Co To, Thanh Lan, and Tran Island (also known as Chan Island or Chang Tay Island).
This is one of the outposts, occupying an extremely important position in terms of politics, economics, national defense, security, and foreign relations… in the northeastern sea region of our country.
Co To, formerly known as Chang Son (Chang Mountain), has long been a refuge for boats and fishermen from the Northeast sea region, but it never became a permanent settlement due to constant harassment by pirate gangs.
In 1832, the Governor-General of Hai An, Nguyen Cong Tru, requested the imperial court to establish villages and communes and appoint officials to manage and guard against invaders from the sea. After peace was restored in the North (1954), the Party and State of Vietnam decided to establish a district-level administrative unit on Co To Island.
On May 9, 1961, President Ho Chi Minh visited Co To Island, and this was the first place where a full-body statue of President Ho Chi Minh was erected while he was still alive.
The topography of Co To Island is characterized by a raised central area surrounded by low hills, mountains, and narrow fields. Along the coast of the islands are sandy beaches, rocky shores, and small bays. The soil is primarily feldspar on sandstone. The economic model of Co To Island District is agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and tourism services, with a focus primarily on fishing and seafood processing.
Currently, Co To focuses on developing tourism services, and this sector is gradually asserting its leading role in the economic structure. It is considered an attractive tourist destination with the pristine beauty of its clear-water beaches, gently sloping shores, and a nearly intact tropical primary forest ecosystem.
The Co To sea area is also considered a leading biodiversity hotspot in Vietnam, with the presence of many typical tropical marine ecosystems, including concentrated coral reef ecosystems.
In the coming period, based on the continued thorough understanding and effective implementation of Resolution No. 8 of the Central Committee (12th Congress) on the Strategy for Sustainable Development of Vietnam's Marine Economy to 2030, with a vision to 2045, and the overall development of Quang Ninh province, Co To will focus on development in an open and integrated direction, with a long-term vision and appropriate steps, ensuring rapid, efficient, and sustainable development.
Co To will attract resources for focused and targeted investment and development of industries with comparative advantages. Priority will be given to building a comprehensive infrastructure; implementing preferential and transparent mechanisms and policies to attract investors to develop production and business on the island.
At the same time, economic development will serve as the foundation for strengthening national defense and security, protecting the area, and ensuring national defense and security as a prerequisite for economic development. The goal is to transform Co To into a "National-level eco-tourism and resort area for coastal and island tourism" and also a crucial outpost for national defense and security in the Northeast sea region of the Fatherland.
