According to Fars News Agency, the explosions occurred around 1:30 a.m. (local time), briefly triggering the air defense system in Bandar Abbas. However, Iranian officials said they have not yet determined the exact source and location of the explosions.
"The exact location and source of these sounds have not yet been determined, and investigations are ongoing," Fars reported.
Bandar Abbas is a strategic port city in Iran, and also home to an important naval base near the Strait of Hormuz – a vital shipping lane for global oil transportation.

Earlier, Reuters quoted a US official as saying that Washington had launched new attacks on an Iranian military site, believed to pose a threat to US forces and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest attack comes just one day after U.S. forces conducted what Washington described as "self-defense" operations against several military targets in southern Iran.
"The precision strikes targeted the missile launch site and the Iranian warship that was attempting to lay mines," said Colonel Tim Hawkins, spokesman for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).
The Iranian Foreign Ministry immediately accused the US of violating the ceasefire and declared that Tehran would retaliate.
Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, also declared that Iran will not back down from its "red lines," which include the right to enrich uranium, the right to possess enriched uranium, control of the Strait of Hormuz, and the lifting of sanctions.
