According to the Jerusalem Post, CENTCOM stated that the attacks last weekend on Iranian radar facilities and drone command and control centers were for self-defense purposes. "The carefully planned and targeted airstrikes took place on May 30-31 in response to Iranian aggression, including the shooting down of a US MQ-1 drone operating in international waters," CENTCOM reported.
CENTCOM announced that U.S. fighter jets responded "swiftly" to the incident, targeting and destroying Iranian air defense systems, a ground control station, and two one-way attack drones deemed to pose a "clear threat" to ships navigating in the area.
CENTCOM added that no U.S. military personnel were injured. CENTCOM also pledged to protect U.S. assets and interests throughout the region "in response to Iran's unprovoked aggression during the ongoing ceasefire."
Meanwhile, Iran International quoted Iranian residents as saying they heard the sound of fighter jets in several areas across the capital Tehran. Additionally, three explosions were reported in the port city of Bandar Abbas on the Strait of Hormuz on the morning of June 1st.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) later confirmed that the US had targeted one of its air bases.
Also on the morning of June 1st, the Kuwaiti Armed Forces announced that its air defense systems had intercepted numerous hostile missile and drone attacks. According to the Kuwaiti General Staff, any explosions heard across the country were the result of the air defense system responding to incoming threats.
Earlier, the Kuwait Civil Defence Agency sent emergency alerts to people's mobile phones warning of an "imminent danger" and instructing them to stay in safe places, away from windows and open areas.
