The 2025 high school graduation exam shows a significant difference in the score distribution between admission groups, posing a challenge for educational institutions in ensuring fairness and input quality.
In that context, the Ministry of Education and Training has announced the percentile of total scores of some traditional admission blocks, so that training institutions can refer to calculate the difference in benchmark scores between blocks.
According to the Ministry's data, the difference between the blocks is clearly shown at the high score thresholds. From the 19-point threshold and above, block A00 has a difference of 1-2 points compared to block D01, commonly a difference of 1.5 points.
The 27-point mark for block A00 set by the Ministry of Education and Training is equal to 25.5 points for D01.
The difference in scores between D01 and C00 is even larger. Some benchmarks have a gap of 3-3.5 points. For example, 27 C00 points are equal to 24 D01 points; 26 C00 points are equal to 22.75 D01 points; 25 C00 points are equal to 21.5 D01 points.

Based on data from the Ministry of Education and Training, many schools have their own conversion formulas, each with its own style. However, there are also many schools that do not convert scores between admission groups using the high school graduation exam method.
For example, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Vietnam National University continue to apply the announced combination formula, in which the high school graduation exam score accounts for 20% of the total admission score and does not convert between combinations.
Associate Professor Dr. Bui Hoai Thang, Head of the School's Training Department, said that using the combination formula is enough to determine the admission score.
Similarly, the University of Commerce and the National Economics University both use many combinations but only take one common benchmark score, regardless of the combination.
Vietnam Aviation Academy also announced the rules for converting combinations between methods, but there is no formula for converting between combinations within the same method. The Academy noted that it only converts the floor score and admission score, not the candidate's admission score.

On the side of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, although it has built a correlation function to convert admission scores between admission methods, for the 2025 high school graduation exam method, the school does not convert between combinations.
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department, explained that in the admission combinations, the school has included 2 core subjects, so conversion is not necessary.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City Open University has announced the threshold to ensure input quality and the rules for converting equivalent scores between methods. Currently, the school has only announced the input threshold determined to be equal between the combinations, and has not announced what the standard score will be.
Dan Tri newspaper's analysis of 2025 high school graduation exam score data shows that the score distribution of combinations of English and math subjects used by many schools as admission combinations, especially D01, is much lower than combinations A00 and C00.
For example, when comparing the D01 and A00 combinations, two combinations that many schools use together in their admission combinations, the difference is clear.
Accordingly, the number of candidates achieving 7 points or higher in English only accounts for about 15% and more than 38% of candidates have below average scores.
Similarly, in math, the number of candidates who scored 7 or higher was 12.3%. The number of candidates below average was up to 56.3%, meaning that more than half of this year's 12th graders did not achieve a 5 in high school math graduation.
Meanwhile, physics and chemistry had very high results with average scores of 6.99 and 6.06 respectively. In particular, in physics, only about 9% of candidates scored below 5 points and more than half of candidates scored 7 points or more.
These are the factors that make up the large difference in score distribution between block D01 (math, literature, English) and block A00 (math, physics, chemistry).

At the 24-point mark (average 8 points/subject) or higher, block D01 has 12,499 candidates, block A00 has 28,498 candidates, 2.3 times more.
The higher up, the more obvious the difference.
At the 25-point mark or higher, block D01 has 4,989 candidates, block A00 has 19,973 candidates, 4 times more.
At the 26-point mark or higher, block D01 has 1,421 candidates, block A00 has 12,571 candidates, 8.8 times more.
At the 27-point mark or higher, block D01 has 239 candidates, block A00 has 6,524 candidates, 27.2 times more.
At the 28-point mark or higher, block D01 has 14 candidates, block A00 has 2,308 candidates, 164 times more.
At the 28.5 point mark or higher, block D01 has 2 candidates but block A00 has up to 1,035 candidates, 517 times more.
The top student of block D01 scored 29 points, which is also the only score of 29 in the whole country. Meanwhile, block A00 has 344 students with 29 points or more.
The large difference in score distribution between groups puts candidates who plan to apply for admission with a combination of subjects including English and math at a disadvantage, especially D01.
