On July 26, Ho Chi Minh City Police coordinated with the National Population Data Center and related parties to deploy a solution for applying electronic identification, authentication and biometric recognition on the VNeID application to serve check-in procedures at Terminal T3 - Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
Speaking to reporters of the Hanoi Moi Newspaper, Lieutenant Colonel Ho Duc Thien, Deputy Head of the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order (PC06, City Police) said that this is the second step of the implementation of the Plan to apply digital technology throughout the civil aviation industry, helping passengers carry out security procedures, check-in, board the plane... through VNeID integrating biometric data (face), gradually replacing the traditional method of presenting documents.
For citizens, using VNeID with integrated biometric data such as face and fingerprint will help the aviation check-in process become faster, more convenient and safer.
With just a mobile device installed with VNeID, passengers can check-in online, verify their identity, go through security and board the plane without having to carry many types of documents as before. This is especially useful in the context of increasing travel demand and increasingly strict security control requirements.
For authorities, electronic identification and biometric technology helps increase the accuracy of information authentication, minimize the risk of using fake documents, facilitate tighter passenger control, and contribute to ensuring aviation security and national safety. At the same time, unified identification data on VNeID helps connect ministries, branches and related units, saving time, human resources and administrative costs.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Ho Duc Thien, in the long term, this is a fundamental step in the roadmap for comprehensive digitalization of air transport activities, towards forming a smart, paperless airport ecosystem, serving passengers with more modern, civilized and convenient methods.
To support people in getting acquainted with and using the application, the City Police have directed relevant departments such as PC06, PA08 and Tan Son Nhat border gate to arrange support staff at the airport from now until August 15. This is to help people quickly grasp and more conveniently use this solution.
The app is being piloted at Tan Son Nhat airport for domestic flights. After the pilot phase, the app will be deployed at other airports nationwide, including international and domestic ports, starting next September.
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh, Information Technology Team, Terminal Operation Center, Tan Son Nhat International Airport said that to deploy the VNeID system, the unit has closely coordinated with the contractor to install the back-office (BO) system, pull the network cable and ensure the most stable transmission line, to avoid any interruption for passengers when doing procedures. According to the initial assessment, on the first day of deployment, the system operated smoothly, no errors occurred, and all passengers were comfortable when doing procedures.
"With this application, passengers only take about 5 seconds to scan their face and board the plane. Previously, before VNeID was deployed, passengers often took about 5-10 minutes to complete procedures at the counter, check documents...", said Mr. Linh.
Mr. Tran Thanh Lam, living in Ho Chi Minh City , shared after experiencing the flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc: "Advanced technology helps me complete procedures much faster than before, saving time, no need to wait in long lines, I am very satisfied."
According to the instructions, people can do it in two ways. Method 1 (for iOS device users - Check-in online via VNeID application): Access VNeID application → "Other services" → "Airline services" → "Check-in online".
After agreeing to the terms and sharing data, passengers are transferred to the Vietnam Airlines app to check in online and verify their identity (eKYC). Note that this feature is only available on iOS devices.
Method 2 (biometrics at the airport): Passengers check in directly at the Vietnam Airlines counter (counters 56 to 77). Then, go to the security control gate to perform automatic facial recognition...
