Hanoians enjoy taking the one-touch "biometric" metro to every station ( Video : Thuong Huyen - Minh Nhat).
Since 6am on September 24, staff at Van Quan station have been present to guide passengers participating in testing the electronic identification, authentication and biometric recognition solutions.

Not only Van Quan station, 12 stations with 65 ticket gates of the Cat Linh - Ha Dong urban railway line 2A are all implementing this program.
When participating in the trial, passengers will be given detailed instructions on how to go through the gate, experience new technological solutions, and have their tickets priced according to the non-cash payment fare table.

Citizens are carefully guided to register basic personal information, including full name, gender, year of birth, phone number, email, citizen identification card, occupation and bank account. After completing the procedure, passengers can choose one of three ways to pass through the gate: using a citizen identification card with chip, Hanoi Metro application or Visa card.

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Viet, who regularly takes the train from Van Quan station to work, said that the registration and identification process takes about 5-7 minutes. After that, he only needs to swipe his card at the gate, without having to queue up to buy a ticket like before.

“Previously, during rush hour, I had to wait 3-4 minutes to buy a ticket. Now, I just need to scan my card and get in immediately, saving a lot of time,” he said.

The group of seniors (over 60 years old) who are exempt from ticket fees also participated in the trial. Mr. Bui Van Can, 62 years old, shared: “Using a chip-embedded citizen ID card to take the train is very convenient because I always carry the card with me. Before, I had to go to the counter to get a free ticket, now I just need to scan the card to get in.”

According to Dan Tri reporter, on the morning of September 24, many passengers used the above methods instead of the traditional form of ticket purchase.
Young people mainly use the Hanoi Metro app to buy electronic tickets, which are convenient to store on their phones. Others use Visa cards, and the fare is deducted directly without having to buy a paper ticket.

Ms. Thanh Phuong (Ha Dong ward, Hanoi) shared: "Paying by Visa card is very convenient because it is now an indispensable item for me and many young people."

Hanoi Metro representative said that the application of biometric identification technology not only helps reduce waiting time but also increases safety and accuracy in ticket control. Passengers can use many different forms of payment, suitable for each person's needs.

Some passengers are not used to activating the NFC feature on their phones to scan the app. Some elderly people have difficulty downloading the app. However, station staff are always available at the information desks to provide on-site assistance.

In the morning, the number of visitors is mainly concentrated in the working hours from 7am to 9am. Many people consider this a useful solution, helping to reduce congestion at the ticket counter, especially during peak days.

Hanoi currently has two metro lines in operation, Cat Linh – Ha Dong and Nhon – Cau Giay. The city plans to start construction on Line 2 (Nam Thang Long – Tran Hung Dao) and Line 5 (Van Cao – Ngoc Khanh – Lang – Hoa Lac) next October.

The start of testing electronic authentication and personal identification on the Cat Linh – Ha Dong metro line shows that Hanoi is gradually applying digital technology to train operations. If widely deployed, passengers will save time, reduce direct contact, and improve their experience when using public transport.
