Currently, the raw material for broom making is purchased in Que Son, Tay Giang, Dong Giang, Nam Giang districts and must be imported from Laos. However, according to the assessment of long-time workers, the quality of the bamboo in the Western Quang region is still better than that of other places because it is bright in color, smooth, and tough, so the broom will be durable and strong.
Mr. Nguyen Nhat Tuan - Director of Nhat Tuan Agricultural and Commercial Cooperative (Chiem Son village, Duy Trinh commune) said that to make a broom, the first step is to strip the bamboo, tie it into small bunches, then combine them into larger bundles and weave the bundles together. Finally, tie the rattan strings, also known as braiding.
Every day, Mr. Tuan's facility produces nearly 2,000 brooms of various types, which are consumed nationwide. There are about 20 workers, mainly the elderly, disadvantaged people in difficult circumstances, and disabled people in the village participating in the work with an income ranging from 4-6 million VND/person/month.
Chiem Son village (Duy Trinh commune) currently has about 200 households participating in broom production, providing regular jobs for more than 300 local workers...
