Demand for the 15-inch MacBook Air fell short of expectations.

According to DigiTimes , several of Apple's supply chains have confirmed that sales of the 15-inch MacBook Air laptop have not met initial expectations. The device was first introduced at the WWDC 2023 event in June and went on sale a week later, but in July, sales were only about 50% of expectations. As a result, some suppliers revealed they received requests to reduce production of this model.

The 15-inch MacBook Air was officially distributed in Vietnam from July, but it also faced the same gloomy situation as the domestic computer market, with retailers continuously lowering prices to gauge consumer demand. At the time of launch, the standard version (8 GB RAM, 256 GB storage) cost around 32 million VND, while the 512 GB model reached 38 million VND.

According to experts, the poor sales of the 15-inch Air series laptop are not due to the device being unattractive, but rather to a general decline in purchasing power. The 13-inch MacBook Air, once Apple's best-selling laptop in Vietnam, has also seen continuous price reductions. In this context of cautious spending, consumers are willing to save a few million dong to choose a model with a smaller screen (only 2 inches), as there are not many differences in design or specifications.

Previously, the product received quite a few optimistic reviews from domestic retailers. "We expect sales to be equivalent to both previous 13-inch MacBook Air models and could reach 2,000-3,000 units sold per month," shared Mr. Nguyen The Kha, Commercial Director ofFPT Shop.

Despite being larger than its predecessor, the 15-inch model weighs less than 1.5 kg, equivalent to the 13-inch model in the same line. Its thickest point is only 11.5 mm, 40% thinner and about 220 grams lighter than many 15-inch laptops currently on the market, although not the thinnest.
