Summer is a wonderful time for children to rest, play, and expand their world through books. The children's books introduced by Kim Dong Publishing House this summer aim to contribute to the joy of reading, while also inspiring children to develop proactive learning habits and a love for exploring nature through innocent curiosity.

Literary works nourish the soul.

For a long time, Kim Dong Publishing House's "Magical Childhood Book Collection" has been dedicated to selecting literary works specifically for elementary school readers. This summer, the collection features three new and captivating works.

The story in "Legend on the High Hill" by author Le Hang begins with the mischievous antics and adventures of an 8-year-old buffalo herder. Gradually, through his "big escapades," Top and his young friend Xíu discover the secret of Mr. Tý, a man considered abnormal, living alone in a dilapidated house on the hill. During their adventure exploring "Mr. Tý's Hill," Top learns about Mr. Tý's love and noble sacrifice, thus learning to bravely confront evil, and also learning about love and compassion.

Bringing a unique fantasy story, author Kagome027, whose real name is Nguyen Ngoc Hoang Lan, releases the work "The Secret of the Red Leaves". The story tells of a verdant forest hiding a secret that awaits its revelation in autumn, when the leaves begin to change color. At that time, the mischievous boy Rowan and the gentle girl Eliana coincidentally meet Felix – a mysterious child in a white cloak carrying a magical bag containing many secrets. From there, their journey to the magical world of the enchanting misty village officially begins, leading readers on an exploration.

Instead of taking readers on adventures, the long story "The Purple-Feathered Rooster Knight" by author Hoang Nhat Tuyen opens up a vibrant world of animals, rich in natural colors and overflowing with emotion. From a "crow's egg" that his grandparents picked up and incubated, Striped Rooster was born and later became Red Rooster. As a child, Striped Rooster was mischievous and energetic, but as he grew up, Red Rooster diligently trained, was righteous, and achieved many "victories." It was Red Rooster's chivalrous spirit that led the community to honor him as the "Purple-Feathered Rooster Knight." This fable about the purple-feathered rooster is an interesting and relatable lesson in growing up for young readers.

Picture book pages invite exploration.

Along with captivating literary works, many beautifully illustrated picture books have also been published, helping children access books and develop a reading habit.

The book series "Young Environmental Activists," written by author Hu (Quynh Huong) and illustrated by artists NGART and Bui Xuan Quynh, combines storytelling with scientific knowledge to provide young readers with essential information to become active environmental protectors. The stories are based on situations familiar to Vietnamese children, such as landslides during the storm season; the impact of garbage from rivers and streams on coastal communities; and the vast wind farms that provide clean but not inexhaustible energy. These stories are accompanied by basic knowledge, fostering in young readers an awareness of the need to explore, observe, and apply this knowledge to their lives in order to protect the environment.

The four-volume "Cultivating Emotions" series, including "Why Is Butter So Worried?", "Taco Is About to Fall Apart", "Waffle Is Still Hesitating", and "Just Being S'More Is Great Enough", features creative picture books that use images of familiar foods to help children identify and overcome emotional challenges and develop life skills. With playful wordplay and adorable, vibrant illustrations, the series makes complex psychological concepts relatable and easy to understand for young children. It's a wonderful emotional education tool that helps children build confidence, perseverance, and self-understanding.

The "Little Stories Filled with Love" series (5 volumes) comprises 5 stories with unique and intriguing situations: There's the story of an old woman who, despite living alone, insists she has children and grandchildren living far away; the story of a young man who suddenly receives a wedding invitation from a… cat; and the story of a little girl's friendship with a talking stuffed rabbit… These magical stories teach young children about a world rich in imagination and love – where all creatures live together in harmony and closeness, with messages that spread warmth to every corner of the heart, nurturing the soul of each young reader.

Presenting the picture book series "Four Seasons of Love," author Mai Anh Doan and illustrator Chau Pham introduce works including "The Bear Who Hates Spring," "The Summer Adventure," "The Autumn Lamp," and "The Winter Wish." Although each season brings different emotions and life energies, all four seasons meet at one point: Love is the most wonderful light for children to see and embrace the world.
