HEAD OF VIETNAMESE SPORTS DELEGATION MOVED TO EMOTION
At the shooting range of the Huamark Sports Complex (Bangkok), Mong Tuyen and Nguyen Tam Quang performed impressively, topping the qualifying round of the 10m mixed air rifle event. This result propelled the Vietnamese pair into the final, competing for the gold medal against two Thai athletes. Here, the competition was intense and breathtaking, showcasing both skill and composure. Tam Quang shot well, but due to his young age (born in 2005) and lack of experience at the highest level, he repeatedly scored below 10. At this point, Mong Tuyen consistently demonstrated her composure, making near-perfect shots to "save the situation." In the final round, with the score tied at 14-14, the 2003-born athlete impressed with a score of 10.7, giving the Vietnamese pair a total score of 21, 0.3 points more than Thailand, to secure a 16-14 victory. Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang became the first two athletes to win gold medals for Vietnam in shooting at the 33rd SEA Games.

In the stands, Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, head of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 33rd SEA Games, couldn't contain his emotions. Witnessing Mong Tuyen and Tam Quang's explosive performance at the end of the match, he was overwhelmed and shared: "I'm happy because this isn't a strong event for Vietnamese shooting. In this event, Thailand and Singapore are very strong, top contenders." Meanwhile, young shooter Tam Quang was too moved to speak.
A TEACHER'S TEARS
Overcoming immense pressure in Thailand, Bac Thi Khiem brilliantly won the gold medal in the women's under 73 kg taekwondo category, marking her third SEA Games victory. The final match of the women's under 73 kg taekwondo sparring event at the 33rd SEA Games witnessed a "devastating" performance by Bac Thi Khiem against Delo (Philippines). With an overwhelming 2-0 victory, the female athlete from Son La successfully reclaimed the championship she lost at the previous Games, officially adding her collection of three SEA Games gold medals (in 2019, 2022, and 2025).
However, the most touching scene unfolded behind the scenes. In an interview, his voice hoarse from shouting instructions, Coach Vu Anh Tuan couldn't hold back his tears and burst into tears in front of the camera. "At the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia, Khiem only won a silver medal. This time, she did it, I'm so happy. Thank you," Coach Anh Tuan's choked words of gratitude silenced everyone. The coach's tears were the culmination of all the pressure and worry for Bac Thi Khiem, finally culminating in overwhelming happiness as his student returned to the top of the region.
In contrast to her teacher's intense emotion, Bac Thi Khiem appeared with a radiant smile and incredible strength. She shared that it was her teacher's shouts of instruction and the encouragement from the audience and teammates in the arena that gave her the strength to overcome the pressure, strive for victory against the strong Thai fighter in the semi-finals, and confidently advance to the final. The emotions of teacher and student were contrasting, but that contrast was beautiful. The teacher devoted his heart to worry and hope, while the student used all her strength and ability to repay that trust.
These tears illustrate an emotional day of competition for the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 33rd SEA Games. They represent happiness, pride, and a testament to the tireless efforts, intense passion, and burning desire for victory of the coaches, athletes, and sports professionals in Vietnam.
