After the flash flood, it took us nearly 5 hours of walking, wading through streams, and overcoming dozens of landslides to reach the border village of Pieng Cooc, Nhon Mai commune, Nghe An province, an area that suffered great damage. Seeing the heavily devastated village of the Mong ethnic group made everyone feel sad and heartbroken.
Pieng Cooc village is located near the Vietnam-Laos border , where 55 Mong ethnic households live. The village is isolated from other residential areas, has a steep slope, dangerous traffic, and the people's lives are still difficult. After the historic flood, the village suffered heavy damage, 14 houses were swept away, and rocks and soil slid down, causing serious damage. More dangerously, the mountain behind the village cracked open, and a large amount of soil fell down.

The only road leading to the border village is also broken at many points, so people have to follow the mountain slopes and stream banks to get to the commune center. Mr. Va Tong Cha, a resident of Pieng Cooc village, shared: “After the flood, the mountain collapsed severely, threatening the lives of the people, making it impossible to live here anymore. I just hope that the local government will have a resettlement plan for us to soon stabilize our lives.”
