Which types of cars and motorcycles can use E10 gasoline?

VTV.vn - E10 bioethanol fuel can be used in many types of cars and motorcycles if the manufacturer confirms compatibility. Older vehicles should have their fuel systems checked and maintained before use.

Check compatibility carefully before using E10 gasoline.

For motorcycles with the E10 fuel rating clearly indicated on the fuel tank cap, consumers can use them with confidence. For motorcycles without such information, whether new or used, consumers should consult the manufacturer's user manual to determine if they are compatible with E10 fuel.

For older vehicles, people should also have them inspected to detect any potential risks before using E10 gasoline, such as difficulty starting, sediment buildup, clogged filters, and damage to fuel injectors or fuel lines.

For motorcycles with markings on the fuel tank cap indicating compatibility with E10 gasoline, people can use them with peace of mind.

According to Mr. Lu Hai Nam, Head of the Technical Department of the Vietnam Motorcycle Manufacturers Association, regulatory agencies need to step up public awareness campaigns, and manufacturers must also strengthen their recommendations so that people know whether their vehicles are compatible with E10 gasoline.

According to Mr. Nam, if users lose or no longer have the user manual, they can contact the manufacturer's hotline for assistance in checking the vehicle's compatibility with E10 gasoline.

For cars, many models clearly state on the fuel cap whether they can use E10 gasoline. For vehicles without this information, consult the owner's manual or contact the manufacturer to determine.

For cars, many models clearly indicate on the fuel cap whether or not they can use E10 gasoline.

Used cars need fuel system maintenance before conversion.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Dam Hoang Phuc - Head of Mechanical Engineering, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, for older cars that are over 10 years old, even if they can use E10 gasoline, it is still necessary to check and replace some parts and components that may weaken after a long period of use, such as seals and fuel lines.

"I also advise everyone to have those pipes checked, maintained, and replaced to ensure the safety of their own vehicles. If they are genuine parts, and the pipes are manufactured at this time and are guaranteed to be compatible with E10 gasoline, then we can be completely assured about those parts and have nothing to worry about," said Associate Professor Dr. Dam Hoang Phuc.

E10 gasoline will be available nationwide from June 1st.

Many motorcyclists and car owners report feeling sluggish and experiencing engine problems after refueling with E10 gasoline. This can be explained as follows: Older vehicles often have accumulated dirt and grime in the fuel tank. The corrosive properties of ethanol in E10 gasoline dissolve this dirt, causing it to travel through the fuel lines and clog the injectors, affecting other parts and leading to sluggish engine performance. Therefore, it's essential to clean the fuel tank thoroughly before refueling with E10.

On the other hand, ethanol is hygroscopic, so when a car is not driven for a long time, it absorbs moisture from the air, leading to an increase in the water concentration in the gasoline. Simultaneously, water separates, with ethanol settling at the bottom and gasoline remaining on top, resulting in reduced power output.

"The only way to solve that problem is to circulate that gasoline very quickly. Secondly, the standard system for storing and transporting ethanol has its own set of stricter standards compared to the usual system. If we do a good job from market management to everything else, I guarantee that the water content in ethanol and gasoline will not exceed the limits, and we will not experience such phenomena."

In general, E10 bioethanol can be used in many current car and motorcycle models if certified compatible by the manufacturer. However, for older vehicles, users should check and maintain the fuel system before switching to avoid problems such as clogged injectors, damaged lines, or reduced engine performance.

Experts also advise people to clean their fuel tanks regularly, avoid leaving their vehicles unused for too long, and follow the manufacturer's instructions to ensure safety, engine durability, and maximize the effectiveness of E10 biofuel.

According to Circular 50 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , from June 1, 2026, unleaded gasoline (according to current national technical standards) must be blended into E10 gasoline for use in gasoline engines nationwide.

At the same time, the blending and production of E5 RON92 gasoline for use in gasoline engines will continue until December 31, 2030.

This means that RON95-V and RON95-III gasoline will be replaced by biofuels from June 1, 2026. Accordingly, only biofuels such as E10 RON95-V, E10 RON95-III, and E5 RON92-II will be available on the market.

In fact, since mid-May, thousands of gas stations nationwide have gradually reduced the proportion of RON95 gasoline to switch to E10 gasoline. For example, nearly 1,000 PVOIL gas stations switched to selling E10 gasoline from May 15th. Meanwhile, as of May 20th, approximately 5,500 Petrolimex gas stations nationwide had also switched to selling E10 gasoline and stopped selling conventional gasoline.
