Over 30 years of searching and collecting antiques

Mr. Chang said that the house was the third generation in his generation, restored and cared for like a family treasure. Since childhood, living with his grandparents in the old house, Mr. Chang has treasured and wanted to preserve each item and cherished the plan to collect. At the age of 31, after getting married, he worked in the fields and cultivated 15 hectares of pomelos to save money to collect antiques until now.

For more than 30 years searching and collecting antiques throughout the West, Mr. Chang has owned thousands of objects, from coins, ceramics, bronze, cabinets, tables and chairs to panels... The tables and chairs left by his grandfather are now 100 years old but are still durable because they are made from precious woods such as betel and rosewood. Among them, the most prominent is the cold bed (many people often call it long san) similar to the famous bed of the young master of Bac Lieu .

The cold bed was bought by Mr. Chang more than 20 years ago from a wealthy family in Ben Tre for 200 million VND. To have enough money to buy it, he had to sell several thousand bushels of rice. The cold bed is made of precious wood inlaid with smooth, delicate mother-of-pearl, the floor is paved with precious stones, the crossbars above are beautifully designed. The floor is paved with precious stones so when sleeping, it is very cool and comfortable.

"Since I bought this bed, I have slept there every night. Even though I don't use a mosquito net, I have never been bitten by mosquitoes. My spirit is refreshed and my health is good. Especially on hot summer days, sleeping on this bed is very cool," said Mr. Chang.

Currently, many people are offering to buy the cold bed for 600 million VND, but Mr. Chang has not thought about selling it, because he considers it a treasure that needs to be kept.

International tourist attractions

Another artifact, although not very valuable, is a rather interesting story in the journey of collecting antiques of the old farmer of the grapefruit land. 24 years ago, in Can Tho City, someone offered to sell a horizontal board measuring 1.2 m long and 0.8 m wide for 20 million VND. To have money to buy it, Mr. Chay took the trouble to cut 1,000 grapefruit branches to sell to get money to buy this antique to hang in his house.

The Southern cultural space in a well-off house nearly a century ago is almost completely expressed in Mr. Cha's house. Many antiques such as wine trays, betel trays, vases, teacups, old money... along with old tables and chairs are kept brand new by him, displayed to serve tourists.
