Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam, Lam Thi Phuong Thanh, delivered a speech.

In her opening remarks at the 2026 Vietnam Culture Week in Laos, Vietnam's Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Lam Thi Phuong Thanh, emphasized that cooperation in culture, sports, and tourism always plays a crucial bridging role, contributing to enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries, fostering close ties and trust, and further deepening the special Vietnam-Laos relationship.

Lao Minister of Culture and Tourism Suansavanh Viyaketh stated that the Vietnam Culture Week in Laos in 2026 marks a new phase of cooperation in the fields of culture and tourism between Laos and Vietnam for the period 2026-2030. This demonstrates the close and special relationship in the history of international relations, serving as an outstanding and unprecedented model that benefits the people of both countries, both in their past struggles for independence and freedom, and in the present era of national construction and development.

A highlight of this year's Culture Week is the puppet art program titled "Vietnamese Flavors and Colors." This includes water puppetry – a unique folk art form, considered one-of-a-kind in the world, embodying the wisdom, soul, and cultural identity of Vietnam through thousands of years of nation-building and defense.

Through the rich symbolism of art, the programs not only celebrate the distinctive traditional values of Vietnamese culture, but also vividly reflect the image of a peaceful, humane, and aspirational Vietnam, ready to integrate deeply with the region and the world.

Many artistic performances, meticulously staged by artists from the Vietnam Puppet Theatre, are rich in symbolism reflecting the culture and friendship between Vietnam and Laos. A prime example is the performance "Legend of the Dragon and Fairy," recreating the sacred legend of Lac Long Quan and Au Co, thereby affirming the profound cultural roots and the spirit of national unity of the Vietnamese people.

In addition, there is the "Drum Festival - Teu Teaching Performance" which conveys a message of prosperity, peace, and development. Performances of traditional musical instruments such as the bầu lute and the T'rưng lute create an artistic space rich in cultural identity.

Finally, the performance "Hello Vietnam - Beautiful Champa Flowers" was a symbolic highlight, vividly portraying the strong friendship between the two Parties and States of Vietnam and Laos, and expressing the loyal and close bond between the people of the two countries.

The Vietnam Culture Week in Laos 2026 will continue until May 16th in the capital Vientiane and Savanakhet province, Central Laos. This includes a special performance for the Vietnamese community in Vientiane.
