On August 25, storm No. 5 caused heavy rain and strong winds in the North Central region, causing initial damage. In the Hon La sea area (Quang Tri), waves nearly 2m high and strong winds appeared, causing many fish cages of fishermen to be unmoored, drifted ashore, and severely damaged, with estimated losses of billions of dong.

Mr. Cao Thai, a fish farmer in Phu Trach commune, said: “My family has 6 fish rafts. This morning, big waves washed them all away, many wooden frames and fishing nets were broken. Looking through the camera, I feel heartbroken, the damage is estimated at billions of dong.”

Not only in Hon La, in the Roon River area (Hoa Trach commune), the strong southwest wind and rising river water put many oyster rafts of Mr. Nguyen Viet Cuong at risk of being swept away, with an estimated loss of nearly 1 billion VND.

Meanwhile, at the mouth of the Roon River, the waves rose high, the current was strong and turbulent, people continuously went to the wharf to check and reinforce the anchor ropes of boats to cope.
