Transparent phone cases are popular and have become a basic accessory to protect and decorate your phone. However, there are still some unavoidable disadvantages of this type of accessory.
1. Easily yellows over time
One of the most common disadvantages of transparent cases is yellowing. These products are often made from materials such as TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane) or PC (Polycarbonate), which tend to change color when exposed to sunlight, heat, and sweat for a long time. After a period of use, especially under the influence of UV rays, the case can gradually turn yellow, reducing the aesthetics of the phone.

2. Poor impact resistance
While clear cases can help protect the surface of your phone from scratches, they are often not as impact-resistant as other flexible or hard cases. This is due to their thin, lightweight design that doesn’t hide the design of your phone. When dropped from a height or subjected to a strong impact, clear cases may not be able to provide enough protection, resulting in damage to both the case and the phone.
3. Easily shows fingerprints and dirt
Transparent cases, especially those made from glossy materials, easily attract dirt and fingerprints, making them less attractive if not cleaned regularly. Sweat from hands or fingerprints can easily be imprinted on the surface, reducing the transparency and aesthetics of the product. Moreover, cleaning must be done carefully to avoid scratching the plastic surface of the case.
4. Limited durability
Clear cases are generally not very durable. Plastic materials, whether TPU or PC, are brittle and can crack when subjected to strong impacts. Some cases may deform over time if exposed to temperature or external pressure. Compared to other types of cases made of rubber or silicone, the average lifespan of clear cases is generally shorter.
5. Not yet able to provide comprehensive protection
Many clear cases only focus on protecting the back and edges of the phone, but cannot fully protect the screen if it falls face down. This means users need to invest in additional screen protectors or other protective accessories to ensure complete safety for the device.
