After 30 years of continuous efforts and development, the Faculty of Sociology and Development (Academy of Journalism and Communication) has made outstanding contributions, becoming the pride of the academy.
MEET NATIONAL QUALITY ASSESSMENT STANDARDS
In the early 80s of the 20th century, realizing the necessity of sociology for leadership and management, the Board of Directors of Central Propaganda School 1 decided to establish a Sociology Department under the Faculty of Supplementary Knowledge, consisting of 9 staff members who were responsible for teaching 3 subjects: sociology, informatics and demography.
During the period of 2004 - 2014, the faculty's staff and lecturers grew, many excellent students trained by the faculty were retained, sent for advanced training, and a number of new lecturers from other training institutions were recruited. Along with the development process, some of the faculty's staff and lecturers were promoted to higher positions, some transferred to other agencies, but the number was usually kept at around 15 people.

From the 2012-2013 school year, in order to meet the needs of society, the faculty added a bachelor's program in social work and in 2013 began a master's program in sociology.
In 2018, the faculty was renamed Sociology and Development. After the school achieved national standards foreducational quality in 2018, in order to further affirm its reputation and position, the faculty proactively registered for external assessment and quality assurance of the sociology training program. By 2022, it was recognized as one of the first four faculties with a training program that met national quality assurance standards.
N MANY UNIQUE IMPRESSIONS IN TRAINING AND TRAINING
In the 2013-2014 school year, the faculty began to offer graduate training in sociology. To date, there have been 7 graduating classes with nearly 100 students and dozens of Lao students. The faculty has developed 2 graduate programs in sociology: One is research-oriented and the other is application-oriented (for graduate training in localities).
It can be said that the general characteristics of the training program at the Faculty of Sociology and Development are still maintained to create a unique mark. In the training program for bachelor of social work, the faculty's lecturers emphasize training skills. In which, using individual and group social work skills to provide support services to individuals, families and groups to help them enhance their ability to solve problems and meet their needs.
New training programs tend to increase the number of major and specialized courses, increase the practice rate, and innovate teaching methods and learner assessment.
In addition to the main task of teaching for the faculty's training programs, general sociology for other majors, the faculty's lecturers also participate in teaching and training in many other training courses for cadres and reporters inside and outside the Academy through projects with the Population - Family and Children Committee; Center for Research on Social Opinion and Population Communication (within the framework of project VIE/97/P19 and later project VIE/01/P09); Ford Foundation; FES Institute...

Actively engage in scientific research
Realizing that to improve the quality of teaching, it is impossible not to do good scientific research, so the faculty's teaching staff has been actively engaged in scientific research over the past 30 years. Compared to the period 10 years after its establishment, the faculty's scientific research potential has increased, especially in recent years, the faculty's lecturers have all participated in scientific research and most of them have published works in international and national conferences.
Faculty staff have guided students to carry out many scientific projects, most of which have been highly appreciated. Students of the faculty have a good scientific research movement. Up to now, there have been 2 projects that have won first prize and many projects have won second, third and consolation prizes. Students of the Faculty of Sociology and Development have contributed to the overall achievements of the school's scientific research work.
In recent years, the Academy of Journalism and Communication has received certificates of merit from the Ministry of Education and Training for its students' scientific research achievements, including many positive and effective contributions from sociology students.
HIGH GRADUATE EMPLOYMENT RATE
With these skills, the faculty’s students have a high employment rate after graduation. Currently, many alumni of the faculty are holding important positions in many domestic and international agencies and organizations. Graduates of the faculty work in many professional positions such as managers, researchers, lecturers, officers in charge of development projects of domestic and international non-governmental organizations, and key officials in the political system at local and central levels.

It can be seen that the Faculty of Sociology and Development is one of the units with a high proportion of Associate Professors (3/20 Associate Professors in the entire Academy), with many potentials and opportunities for development. The Faculty always focuses on ensuring the quality of teaching as the top priority, proactively and regularly innovating both the content of the program, the textbook, especially the teaching methods.

Over 30 years of development, the Faculty of Sociology and Development has always shown itself to be a pioneer of the Academy of Journalism and Communication.
The teaching staff is highly qualified and experienced, professionally trained at home and abroad, has foreign language skills, is a pioneer in innovating teaching methods; many lecturers have achieved high achievements in teaching and scientific research.
Many domestic and international scientific research projects have been published in academic forums; motivating and guiding students in scientific research, winning many high awards from the Ministry of Education and Training.
