According to BGR , while the global gaming community is still counting down the days waiting for the official launch of Nintendo Switch 2, expected to be only about 2 months away, a surprising piece of information has appeared with the first series of rumors about the Nintendo Switch 3 generation of gaming consoles starting to spread. This information comes 7-8 years earlier than the expected announcement date of the product.

Will Nintendo Switch 3 use Intel chips?

The source of the rumor originated from a market analysis report. Wccftech discovered a remarkable comment from John Vinh, a senior research analyst at KeyBanc Capital Markets. In an analysis of Intel's stock, although most of the content required a fee, the only line that immediately attracted attention was: "We believe [Intel] has won the bid to supply GPU sockets for the Nintendo Switch 3 on the 18A process."

This news is particularly noteworthy because Intel 18A is a completely new chip manufacturing technology, first announced by Intel in January of this year. The semiconductor giant described 18A as "a major milestone in the history of chip manufacturing" and is not expected to begin large-scale mass production until the second half of 2025. The fact that Nintendo has reportedly "closed the deal" with Intel for a future generation of gaming consoles using this advanced technology is an unexpected development at the moment.

However, this rumor needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Nintendo is notorious for not rushing through new console generations. In fact, the gap of more than eight years between the first-generation Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 is the longest wait since the legendary NES launched in 1983. If Nintendo maintains a similar release cycle, it’s unlikely that they’ll start using Intel’s 18A chip manufacturing process for a Switch 3 until the 2030s.

So while the rumor of Intel supplying the Switch 3’s chips is interesting, it’s still a story for the very distant future. For now, all eyes should be on the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, which is due to arrive in the next few months.
