Even before the Switch 2 reached fans, rumors of the Nintendo Switch 3 using an Intel chip had already surfaced, causing a sensation.

According to BGR , while the global gaming community is still counting down the days until the official launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, which is expected to be in about two months, surprising news has emerged with the first rumors about the next-generation Nintendo Switch 3 beginning to circulate. This information comes 7-8 years earlier than the product's expected announcement date.

Will the Nintendo Switch 3 use Intel chips?

The rumor originated from a market analysis report. Wccftech discovered a noteworthy statement from John Vinh, a senior research analyst at KeyBanc Capital Markets. In an analysis of Intel stock, while much of the content required payment, a single line immediately caught attention: "We believe [Intel] has won the bid to supply GPU sockets for the Nintendo Switch 3 on the 18A process."

This information is particularly noteworthy because Intel 18A is a completely new chip manufacturing technology, first announced by Intel in January of this year. The semiconductor giant describes 18A as "a significant milestone in chip manufacturing history" and expects to begin large-scale mass production only in the second half of 2025. The fact that Nintendo is reportedly "closing the deal" with Intel for its future generation of gaming consoles using this advanced technology is an unexpected development at this point.

However, this rumor needs to be viewed realistically. Nintendo is known for not rushing the release of new console generations. In fact, the more than eight-year gap between the first-generation Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 is the longest wait since the legendary NES was launched in 1983. If Nintendo maintains a similar release cycle, it's unlikely they will start using Intel's 18A chip manufacturing process for a Switch 3 before the 2030s.

Therefore, while the rumors about Intel supplying chips for the Switch 3 are exciting, it's still a story for the distant future.
