According to Manchester Evening News , the optimism that was present within the “Red Devils” before the 2025/26 season quickly disappeared. Currently, the situation has become tense, anxiety and a gloomy atmosphere are covering the whole team when MU is only ranked 14th in the Premier League table after 4 rounds.
After losing to Arsenal in the opening match and being held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham, MU only had one win against Burnley (3-2) on August 30. However, the heavy 0-3 defeat in the Manchester derby against Man City last weekend made the situation more serious.
Even more disappointing, Amorim's team were also eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Fourth Division Grimsby Town on penalties with a score of 11-12. This series of poor results has caused concerns within MU about the direction of the Portuguese coach.
Amid the criticism, Amorim met with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, the 39-year-old coach seemed quite comfortable, joking that he was even offered a contract extension after the exchange.
The pressure on Amorim is even greater when MU will host Chelsea at Old Trafford in the 5th round of the Premier League on the night of September 20. Coach Enzo Maresca's team is in stable form with an unbeaten streak (2 wins, 2 draws) since the beginning of the season.
