The sacred Yên Tử mountain spreads its influence.

Yen Tu was once the capital of Vietnamese Buddhism, the birthplace of the Truc Lam Yen Tu Zen sect. It is closely associated with the illustrious name and career of Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, who renounced his throne to practice asceticism, attain enlightenment, and become the founder of the Truc Lam Zen sect. With the continuous preservation and promotion of the unique values of the sacred Yen Tu mountain, the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites and scenic spots is facing a great opportunity to become a World Cultural Heritage site, thereby further spreading the global value of this sacred mountain to the international community.

Perhaps, locals, tourists, monks, and Buddhists from all over the world cannot forget the momentous event of the Buddha Shakyamuni's relics being brought, enshrined, and venerated at Truc Lam Yen Tu Palace. In just four days of the event, Yen Tu received over one million visitors, tourists, and Buddhists from all over the country and internationally who came to offer incense, venerate, pray for peace, and contemplate Buddhist teachings. The number of people and tourists who came to venerate the Buddha's relics in those four days was equivalent to the number of visitors to Yen Tu in the previous year.

Visitors, monks, and Buddhists come here not only to worship and perform rituals with a spirit of compassion, spreading goodness and love, but also to deeply appreciate the spiritual, cultural, and historical value of the Yen Tu Relic and Scenic Area - once the Buddhist capital of Vietnam.

This momentous event also created a profound connection between Indian Buddhism, world Buddhism, and Vietnamese Buddhism. This is because Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, during his lifetime, skillfully inherited and adapted the Buddha's teachings to suit Vietnamese customs, culture, and spirit.

Moreover, the procession, veneration, and worship of the Buddha's relics have significantly contributed to Vietnam's consolidation of documentation and values, thereby successfully protecting the nomination dossier for the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites and scenic spots as a World Cultural Heritage site.

Quang Ninh has been making efforts to spread the global value of the sacred Yen Tu mountain.

Located on the Dong Trieu arc in northern Vietnam, stretching across three provinces—Quang Ninh, Bac Giang, and Hai Duong —the ancient complex of relics, over 700 years old, belonging to the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac historical and scenic site, holds special value in terms of religion, culture, and history. It is not only a symbol of patriotic tradition and national spirit but also the birthplace of the Tran Dynasty, the origin of the Truc Lam Zen sect, playing a crucial role in shaping Vietnamese national history.

This complex of historical sites and scenic spots represents the vitality of a long-standing, vibrant cultural heritage that continues to develop to this day, and has been submitted by Vietnam to UNESCO for consideration as a World Heritage Site. Continuing the tradition of thousands of years, Quang Ninh province, along with Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces, are actively working together to preserve and promote the cultural, historical, archaeological, biodiversity, geological values, and unique scenic spots of the complex. Through this, they safeguard and pass on these heritage values to future generations, as well as promote this cultural heritage internationally.

To promote the global value of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical and scenic sites, the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in coordination with the Vietnam National UNESCO Committee - Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, recently organized an event at the Vietnam Cultural Center in France to promote the cultural, historical, and spiritual values of this complex. In this event, the leaders of Quang Ninh province affirmed that the complex, with its comprehensively planned structure encompassing hundreds of temples, shrines, towers, and ancient artifacts spread across three provinces, is a unified whole in terms of both space and spirituality, possessing special religious, cultural, and historical significance that has existed for over 700 years and has become a living cultural heritage. This heritage complex is not only a collection of ancient architectural structures but also a vivid testament to the birth and development of Truc Lam Buddhism - a unique Zen school of Vietnam, founded by Emperor Tran Nhan Tong in the 13th century.

At the 47th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, to be held in Paris (France) in July 2025, a decision will be made on the nomination of the Yen Tu - Vinh Nghiem - Con Son - Kiet Bac complex of historical sites and scenic spots to become a World Cultural Heritage site. It is hoped that the nomination will be accepted and inscribed, thereby contributing to the preservation and dissemination of a valuable heritage not only for Vietnam but also for the international community, honoring the beautiful cultural values of humanity.
