Harvesters are operating at full capacity in the communal fields of Xuan Thuy village (Can Loc commune).

In the communal rice fields of Xuan Thuy village (Can Loc commune), four combine harvesters are working day and night to help farmers quickly harvest their summer-autumn rice crop. On the banks, farmers are busy transporting rice to collection points to sell to traders, creating an even more urgent atmosphere of harvest season.

Ms. Phan Thi Nhan (Xuan Thuy village) shared: “This year, I planted nearly 4 acres of rice, mainly the Nep 98 variety. Fortunately, the area wasn't significantly affected by typhoon number 5, so the yield of fresh rice still reached about 2 quintals per sao (approximately 200 kg per 1000 square meters), which makes us very happy. I sold all of this rice to a purchasing facility in the commune to save on drying costs. At the current pace, my family will finish harvesting the entire area in about 3 days.”

For fields where machinery cannot be used, people are also mobilizing manpower to harvest by hand to minimize damage. Ms. Tran Thi Thu (Hoa Thinh village, Can Loc commune) shared: “This year's storm came early and the rain lasted for a long time, causing damage to nearly half of my family's cultivated area, with over 60% of the crop destroyed. With no other option, I took advantage of the opportunity to harvest manually, and when the sun came out, I dried the rice to use as feed for livestock and poultry, which helped to mitigate some of the losses.”

For areas inaccessible to harvesting machines, people are harvesting by hand to mitigate some of the damage caused by typhoons No. 5 and 6.

These days, farmers in Toan Luu commune are entering the peak harvest season, and the atmosphere is bustling and busy throughout the villages. From early morning, the sound of harvesting machines reverberates in the fields, and farmers are rushing to the fields, making the most of their time to meet deadlines. Mr. Phan Xuan Tai (Ben Toan village) shared: “This summer-autumn crop, my family planted nearly 2 acres of rice, mainly varieties such as Khang Dan 18, Khang Dan mutant, and Nep 98. With the speed of mechanization and concentrated fields, I will finish harvesting in about 3 days.”

Harvesters are working overtime, even at night, to ensure the summer-autumn rice crop is harvested on time.

According to Mr. Tran Ba Hoanh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Toan Luu commune, the locality has harvested over 700 hectares, reaching over 70% of the planned area. Due to the impact of natural disasters, this year's yield has decreased significantly, expected to be around 27-28 quintals/hectare. Currently, the commune is mobilizing 45 harvesting machines, distributing them to the villages to support people in speeding up the process and minimizing damage caused by adverse weather conditions.

In Gia Hanh commune, over 1,600 hectares of rice fields belonging to local farmers are beginning their harvest season, with the sound of combine harvesters rumbling day and night. Mr. Nguyen Van Dai, Deputy Head of the Economic Department (Gia Hanh Commune People's Committee), informed: “The locality has proactively planned and, if necessary, will contact and mobilize additional combine harvesters from neighboring areas to provide support, totaling 30-40 machines; at the same time, we will guide farmers to quickly and efficiently harvest and sell fresh rice right in the fields. The commune strives to basically complete the harvest before September 16th.”

To ensure the rice harvest for farmers, 69 communes and wards have reviewed the total number of combine harvesters in their areas, and based on that, developed a plan for rational coordination among localities.

Directly assisting farmers in the fields, despite facing numerous difficulties, combine harvester owners are continuously working overtime, day and night, to meet deadlines. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, a combine harvester owner in Gia Hanh commune, shared: “This year, operating the machines is more difficult because many rice fields have been flattened, the soil is saturated with water, and it is unstable and prone to subsidence. The machines have to run slowly, consume more fuel, and are more prone to breakdowns. However, we are still trying our best, often having lunch right in the fields, and taking advantage of every moment to help farmers complete their harvest before the rainy season.”

To ensure the rice harvest for farmers, 69 communes and wards have reviewed the total number of combine harvesters in their areas, thereby developing a plan for rational coordination between localities to speed up the process in the shortest possible time. Simultaneously, localities are also closely coordinating with the police force to monitor the situation at the grassroots level, promptly preventing protection rackets involving combine harvesters, price gouging, or price increases, thus protecting the legitimate rights of the people.

Small traders are assisting farmers in purchasing rice in localities with large rice cultivation areas such as Xuan Loc commune, Thien Cam commune, Can Loc commune, Cam Binh commune, etc.

To share the burden and support farmers, many localities are now calling on rice purchasing businesses in their areas to increase the purchase of fresh rice from farmers, helping to reduce losses and the pressure of drying in the context of still unpredictable weather patterns.

Ms. Phan Thi Tuan, a trader in Can Loc commune, said: “This year, farmers are facing difficulties, so our facility is facilitating the purchase of rice from them despite the volatile market. Every day, our facility buys over 20 tons of various types of rice, mainly sticky rice 98, Khang Dan 18, Xuan Mai… and transports them to the northern market. The price of sticky rice is currently 6,000 VND/kg; Khang Dan 18 and Xuan Mai are priced at 4,500 VND/kg for grade 1 rice.”

According to information from the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock, for the 2025 summer-autumn crop, Ha Tinh province will cultivate over 45,000 hectares of rice, mainly using short-growing varieties (100-110 days) to avoid late-season natural disasters, including: Khang Dan 18, Khang Dan mutant, Bac Thinh, Nep 98, Nep 87, Thien Uu 8, BQ, HT1, PC6, TH3-3, TH3-5, Xuan Mai... Currently, localities have harvested over 15,000 hectares (more than 30% of the area). Leading localities in terms of progress are Thien Cam commune, Cam Xuyen commune, Cam Binh commune, Thach Lac commune, and Yen Hoa commune...

Authorities recommend that localities focus on directing and accelerating the harvesting process.

Mr. Phan Van Huan, Head of the Crop Production Department (Ha Tinh Provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock), said: “Taking advantage of favorable weather conditions, localities need to focus on directing and accelerating the harvesting process, along with arranging and regulating harvesting machines appropriately. At the same time, it is necessary to standardize service prices, clearly define harvesting zones, and widely disseminate information so that people can understand it in a timely manner, striving to complete the harvest early and minimize risks from natural disasters. Localities need to proactively connect with businesses, organizations, and individuals to boost rice consumption for farmers.”
