After many days of flooding caused by heavy rain, today the weather has started to be sunny again, the water in the fields has gradually receded, farmers in Tanh Linh district have gone to the fields to re-sow and re-seed the damaged summer-autumn rice fields.

In the fields of Duc Binh commune, from early morning, many farmers were urgently re-sowing damaged rice fields. Mrs. Tran Thi Lien, village 2, Duc Binh commune, just finished spreading the remaining seeds in the seed bucket, lamented: This is the second time we have to re-sow and we don't know if it will be damaged again this time. Farming in the summer-autumn and winter-spring crops is very difficult because of frequent natural disasters and flooding. With 5 hectares planted in the summer-autumn crop, the rice plants were only 10 days old but were flooded twice. 4 hectares were damaged and had to be re-sowed a second time. Mrs. Lien calculated that in the summer-autumn crop, we have to sow more seeds than in the winter-spring crop, 25kg of seeds per sao. The price of seeds is 15,500 VND/kg. The cost of land preparation is 340,000 VND/sao and 1 package of golden apple snail killer is 55,000 VND. The cost is nearly 800,000 VND/sao, not including her labor. According to Ms. Lien, the damage was partly due to flooding, and mostly due to golden apple snails eating and destroying the land.

In the fields of Dong Kho commune, many farmers went to the fields, mainly to re-sow and re-sow damaged rice fields. Mr. Nguyen Dieu, village 2, Dong Kho commune, was catching golden apple snails around the edge of the field and said: This summer-autumn crop, he planted 1.4 hectares of rice. The rice variety used is the high-quality OM 5451 variety that has adapted well to the climate and soil conditions here. Currently, the rice plants are just over 10 days old. Due to heavy rains in recent days, 8 sao of rice were flooded and damaged. He added 50 kg of seeds to re-sow for the past two days, but this morning he went to check and still couldn't find them, maybe he had to re-sow and re-sow again. Mr. Dieu added that his rice was slightly damaged, but some households had to re-sow. The flood water caused little damage, but the golden apple snails caused a lot of damage. Although he has used snail killer many times, he does not know where the golden apple snails are growing so much that he cannot kill them all. Mr. Dieu hopes that the local authorities will check and assess the damage to support the people with seeds for reproduction.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tanh Linh district, this year's summer-autumn crop is expected to be planted on 8,225 hectares of rice, and up to now, about 7,000 hectares have been planted. In recent days, due to heavy rains, combined with water flowing from upstream, about 170 hectares of summer-autumn rice, mainly newly sown by farmers in Duc Thuan, Dong Kho, Duc Binh, Duc Phu, Lac Tanh, etc., have been flooded. The damage level after preliminary inspection is about 70%. Localities have mobilized forces and means to dredge canals and collect garbage at the dams of irrigation works and drainage culverts in residential areas to clear the flow of water and drain quickly, limiting flooding.
