The mountainous commune of Muong Tung has a large natural area, home to many ethnic minority groups, and many highland villages still have high rates of poverty and near-poverty. In recent years , agricultural production has continuously faced challenges from climate change, such as prolonged heatwaves and droughts. Rising prices of agricultural supplies also weigh heavily on the livelihoods of local farmers.
Against this backdrop, the Farmers' Association of the commune has identified poverty alleviation as a key task, closely linked to the movement "Farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty".

Ms. Sung Thi Mai, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Muong Tung commune, said: "To make the movement more effective, the Association has developed many fundamental solutions. First and foremost, we are stepping up propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage farmers to change the structure of crops and livestock; encouraging farmers to strongly apply scientific and technological advancements, and introducing new high-yield varieties into production."
In addition to the Party and State's policies to help farmers develop their livelihoods, the Association has coordinated with the Social Policy Bank to manage and entrust preferential loan capital to its members. To date, the total outstanding loan balance managed by the Association in the commune has reached 17,304 million VND, providing loans to 302 households, creating favorable conditions for households in need to invest in expanding production and developing their economy .
In addition, technical transfer training courses and accelerated vocational training programs are regularly organized for members. The association focuses on building and replicating effective production models, such as the "household orchard intercropping" model in Muong Tung, helping farmers increase their income on the same area of land.
“ The association plays a supporting and connecting role, but the core force that determines success or failure is the members. Seeing households escape poverty and become legitimately wealthy through their own labor is the greatest joy, ” emphasized Ms. Sung Thi Mai.

The continuous efforts have initially yielded positive results. By 2025, the entire commune had 29 households achieving the title of excellent producers and business operators at various levels. Many households had an average income of 50-100 million VND/year, with some reaching 150-200 million VND/year, such as the households of Mr. Nguyen Huu Thuy, Ms. Mua Thi Chu (Trung Dinh village), and Ms. Lo Thi Xuyen (Pom Cai village). These are exemplary individuals with a strong ripple effect in the community.
“ We believe poverty reduction must be sustainable, therefore we need to support farmers with capital, technology, and product outlets. In the coming year, the Association will continue to promote the emulation movement, focusing on guiding the establishment of at least one production and consumption chain and developing OCOP products to enhance the value of agricultural products,” Ms. Sung Thi Mai, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Muong Tung commune, added about the association's direction in the coming years.

That belief is further strengthened by the members themselves. Ms. Lo Thi Lan, a member of the Pom Cai Village Farmers' Association, shared: “ Thanks to the Association providing access to loans and training courses on livestock farming techniques, my family has expanded our pig herd. Our income is more stable, and life is less difficult. I hope the Association will continue to support the people in preventing diseases in livestock and finding stable markets for our products. ”
In its plan for 2026, the Muong Tung Commune Farmers' Association continues to set targets for vocational training for 60-80 members, mobilizing 100% of members engaged in production and business to commit to ensuring food safety, and striving for 60% of members to be equipped with digital skills. These targets demonstrate a determination to comprehensively reduce poverty, not only economically but also to improve the quality of life, making the rural areas of Muong Tung increasingly "bright, green, clean, and beautiful".

Mr. Mua Thanh Son, Secretary of the Party Committee of Muong Tung commune, affirmed: “ The commune Party Committee highly appreciates the role of the Farmers' Association in the socio-economic development of the locality. We will continue to create the best conditions for the Association to play its role as a bridge, advising and proposing practical support policies for farmers, contributing to the successful achievement of poverty reduction goals. ”
With the unity and efforts of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, the poverty eradication movement initiated and led by the Farmers' Association of Muong Tung commune is opening up bright prospects, contributing to the realization of the goal of building a prosperous, beautiful, and civilized new rural area in Dien Bien province.
