Creating new development steps for the agricultural industry
In recent years, agricultural, forestry and fishery production in Thanh Hoa province has been developing rapidly and quite comprehensively, playing an important role in the stability and socio -economic development of the province. Specifically, the proportion of agriculture, forestry and fishery accounts for 13.8% in the economic structure of the province; the average annual growth rate of product value reaches 3% or more; the proportion of agricultural workers in the total labor force of the province by the end of 2023 is 31.1%.
One of the forces that has made a new mark for the agricultural sector is the role of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Farmers' Association in gathering farmers to become the core force in effectively implementing policies and development guidelines in agriculture; implementing labor emulation movements in production. In particular, the most recent is the implementation of projects and contents of the National Target Program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, period 2021-2025 (National Target Program 1719).
Accordingly, the Farmers' Associations at all levels of Thanh Hoa province have actively deployed and developed action plans to implement the Program. Specifically, the Farmers' Association has proactively coordinated with the Provincial Ethnic Committee to implement the Coordination Program for the period 2021-2025, thereby focusing on propagating and mobilizing farmers who are ethnic minorities to implement the Party and State's policies and guidelines, and implement ethnic policies.
At the same time, the Association at all levels has also guided and supported ethnic minority farmers to implement livestock and crop models suitable to local soil conditions and farming practices. Typical models such as breeding cows, raising bio-safe chickens, and growing industrial crops have helped increase people's income.
To promptly encourage and motivate farmers, recently, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Farmers' Association has coordinated with the Provincial Ethnic Committee to develop a plan to organize a "Conference to honor outstanding farmers in successful creative startups, developing household economies in ethnic minority and mountainous areas" and a Forum "Farmers exchange, connect, share knowledge and skills on starting a business in ethnic minority and mountainous areas in Thanh Hoa province", expected to be held in the fourth quarter of 2024.
In addition, implementing Resolution No. 30a of the Government on the program to support rapid and sustainable poverty reduction in poor districts, many Association units have had creative ways in poverty reduction such as building effective models and projects such as "Breeding cattle", "Biologically safe chickens", "Breeding bank" (pigs, chickens, cows, buffaloes), and creating funds such as "Golden heart", "Buying buffaloes and cows" to help poor households develop their economy. "Farmers for sustainable poverty reduction" clubs have also been established to support each other in production and economic development.
In 2023, the Association completed two major projects, including a project to link breeding cows in two communes of Nhu Xuan district and a project to raise safe hybrid chickens in Nhu Thanh district. These projects have directly benefited more than 200 farming households, helping them develop their family economy in a sustainable way.
In 2024, the projects will continue to be expanded, including commercial goat farming in Ba Thuoc district and breeding cows according to the value chain in Quan Hoa and Lang Chanh districts.
Pioneering start-up and innovation
Mr. Tran Binh Quan, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Thanh Hoa province, said: During the past term, the Farmers' Association at all levels has achieved many remarkable achievements. More than 400,000 farming households registered to strive to achieve the title of good production and business households, of which more than 200,000 households met the standards. The Association also advised and supported the establishment of 752 cooperative groups, 133 cooperatives and 300 enterprises, creating close links in production, business and product consumption.
The emulation movement for good production and business not only helps improve people's lives, but also contributes to creating many enterprises, cooperatives, and cooperative groups, promoting production and product consumption linkages.
Ms. Le Thi Thuat, born in 1987, residing in Coc Moc village, Dong Luong commune, Lang Chanh district, is one of the typical farmer members in the local production emulation movement. With a spirit of diligence and creativity, she has successfully built the VAC farm model, especially in the field of fruit tree growing. Thanks to her perseverance and ability to apply science and technology to production, Ms. Thuat has created a stable income of over 200 million VND per year.
Not only does she develop her family's economy, she also supports poor farming households in raising livestock and growing crops, sharing experiences and knowledge to help each other escape poverty.
Farmer Bui Van Soan (born in 1961), Muong ethnic group, Hoang Vinh village, Cam Phu commune, Cam Thuy district is also a typical example of bringing agriculture to a new level. In recent years, farmer Bui Van Soan has proactively built a model of forest planting combined with livestock raising, bringing high economic efficiency to his family.
Accordingly, with an area of 90 hectares of acacia plantation and a goat farm system of 2,000 square meters, each year, after deducting expenses, Mr. Soan earns 525 million VND, of which 400 million VND is from acacia and 125 million VND is from goat farming. The model has also created jobs, helping a household escape poverty thanks to stable employment and an income of 5.5 million VND/person/month.
In addition, he also expanded the household garden farm model, with an area of 3.5 hectares, growing macadamia, bamboo, dragon fruit and combining beekeeping for honey. With this model alone, Mr. Soan has created jobs for 6-8 seasonal workers and 4 regular workers. In addition, Mr. Soan also actively shares production experiences, helping many other disadvantaged households in the area to escape poverty. Thanks to these contributions, he has been repeatedly commended by the People's Committee of the commune and district as a good production and business household.
“Although farming is hard work, as long as we are determined and know how to apply science and technology, we will get worthy results. Initially, I also encountered many difficulties, but thanks to the support of the Farmers' Association and learning from the experiences of those who went before, I have gradually improved my production model. Not only developing the family economy, I also want to help other members, especially households that are still in difficulty, to work together to escape poverty,” Mr. Soan shared.
