Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh, residing in Trung Nam residential area, Trung Phuoc town, Nong Son district, is a shining example of a youth union member in economic development. In 2013, with a small amount of capital plus 40 million VND from a loan from the Social Policy Bank, Ms. Minh and her husband started a small-scale agarwood business. In the beginning, Ms. Minh received support from the district and commune youth unions, participating in entrepreneurship training and connecting with product distributors.
To date, the facility has expanded its scale, providing employment for nearly 20 local young workers with an income of 5-10 million VND/person/month. The facility's handcrafted agarwood Buddha statues have been recognized as a 3-star OCOP product.
According to Mr. Tran Vu Ngoc, Secretary of the Youth Union of Trung Phuoc town, the locality has organized many activities to support young people in establishing themselves and their careers, such as providing livelihoods, training in scientific and technical transfer, connecting them with product consumption, and assisting them in accessing loan capital…
Currently, 98 youth union members have borrowed over 5.7 billion VND to invest in building economic development models, starting businesses, and establishing careers. In the town, there are more than 20 youth startup models that bring high economic efficiency, such as: making Buddha statues from agarwood, free-range chicken farming, lotus cultivation, etc.
According to Mr. Vo Van My, Deputy Secretary of the Nong Son District Youth Union, to effectively implement the "Accompanying Youth in Self-Development and Career Building" movement, the District Youth Union has directed its branches to establish and maintain youth cooperatives, youth economic clubs, and other youth-led economic activities. They have also maintained and effectively promoted the "Startup Coffee" program, built youth-led orchards to both develop the economy and protect the environment, and effectively implemented the "One Commune, One Product" program, connecting markets and promoting products. Furthermore, they have effectively utilized social policy funds and mobilized social resources to support youth economic development.
Over the past period, the Nong Son District Youth Union has provided nearly 200 million VND to young people to purchase machinery and seedlings for economic development. They have mobilized social resources to support 108 young people registered to escape poverty. They have also facilitated loans totaling nearly 30 billion VND from the Social Policy Bank for 485 young people to invest in production and business development through 13 savings and loan groups...
“In the coming time, the District Youth Union will continue to promote propaganda work to raise awareness and knowledge among young people in economic development; entrepreneurship, and innovative business establishment. At the same time, we will provide support in career counseling, job placement, overseas employment, and assistance with loan procedures; organize visits, study tours, experience sharing, and replicate successful economic development models with high and stable incomes in the locality,” Mr. My said.
