The 10th grade entrance exam will be held on June 1-2, with admissions based on selection criteria in two specific localities.
Regarding Ho Chi Minh City's first 10th grade entrance exam after the merger, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training stated that the 2026-2027 10th grade admissions will combine both selection and examination methods to suit the current situation. The decision on whether to use selection or examination methods for each area and each school has been carefully considered.
Specifically, the admission process for 10th grade in public high schools will be implemented in two special zones: high schools in Thanh An island commune (formerly Can Gio district, Ho Chi Minh City) and Con Dao special zone (formerly Con Dao district, Ba Ria-Vung Tau province). Eligible applicants are students who have graduated from junior high school in these two locations.
Public high schools in the remaining 166 wards and communes will conduct entrance exams for 10th grade on June 1-2, covering three subjects: Vietnamese language and literature, mathematics, and a foreign language. This aims to maintain stability and facilitate the process for parents, students, and schools after the merger of the three localities.
According to the Department of Education and Training, for each subject in the 10th grade entrance exam, the basic 10th grade exam is expected to have 60% of the knowledge at the recognition and comprehension level and 40% at the application and higher-level application level.
The exams still focus on testing students' ability to apply their knowledge, using subject matter to solve real-life problems, meeting the requirements of the 2018 General Education Program.

This year, ninth-grade students will take their tenth-grade entrance exam one week earlier than last year.
