In the large rice fields of Phuoc Nam commune, we observed the bustling atmosphere of farmers harvesting. Mr. Hung Thanh Tam, from Van Lam 2 village, excitedly shared: "My family cultivates 4.7 sao (approximately 0.47 hectares) of rice using the ML202 variety. From the beginning of the season, thanks to following the recommendations of the relevant authorities, applying the '1 must, 5 reductions' model, organizing fertilization and spraying at the right time, and controlling pests and diseases promptly, the rice plants grew and developed well, resulting in high yields of over 8 quintals/sao. With fresh rice prices ranging from 7,500-7,800 VND/kg and dried rice from 8,500-8,800 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, my family earned a profit of over 5 million VND/sao, higher than previous seasons. In particular, some areas with good intensive farming practices achieved yields of 9 quintals/sao." Sharing in the joy of a bountiful harvest, Mr. Kieu Van Vuong, from Van Lam 1 village, said: "This year's winter-spring crop saw my family sow 3 sao (approximately 0.3 hectares) of TH6 rice variety and apply the '1 must, 5 reductions' model. Thanks to careful cultivation and favorable weather, the yield reached over 8 quintals per sao. This is the highest rice yield ever, so all the farmers are very excited."
Farmers in Phuoc Nam commune are harvesting rice.
Mr. Khuu Le Khac Tri, Deputy Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Thuan Nam District, said: "In the 2023-2024 winter-spring crop season, the entire district produced 1,647 hectares of rice. To date, farmers in the communes have harvested nearly 1,000 hectares, with an average yield of over 7 tons/ha, higher than previous seasons. This result was achieved thanks to the proactive production efforts of farmers and the implementation of many technical solutions such as organizing training and guiding farmers on the use of high-growth varieties that are resistant to climate conditions, pests, and diseases, as well as proper care from the beginning of the season; and guiding farmers to apply the '1 must, 5 reductions' model. In addition, the rational water management for each field and plot has resulted in higher rice yields than in previous seasons. Currently, the district is focusing on directing the communes to complete the harvest of the winter-spring rice crop." At the same time, develop a planting plan for the summer-autumn crop that is suitable for the weather conditions.
