On October 12, Shukan Bunshun newspaper reported that actress Ryoko Yonekura (50 years old) is being investigated by the Kanto - Shin'etsu Regional Narcotics Control Bureau (under the Japanese Ministry of Health , Labor and Welfare) for suspected possession of illegal substances.

According to the source, the authorities received a notice that Ryoko had used drugs in June, then searched her private apartment in Tokyo on August 20 - where she lived with her Argentine dancer boyfriend - and seized some substances suspected to be drugs.

This information caused a stir in Japanese public opinion, especially when Ryoko suddenly canceled a series of major events in September and October due to "unstable health".

Ryoko had previously publicly disclosed that she had a cerebrospinal fluid leak - a rare condition that causes headaches, loss of balance and fatigue. She also withdrew from the 2022 musical Chicago due to spinal problems. Therefore, the public initially thought that the reason for her hiatus was due to health reasons until the drug investigation was revealed.

Currently, Ryoko and her management company have not given an official response. However, Japanese media are concerned that the incident could seriously affect the movie Angel Flight: The Movie - a project in which she plays the main role, scheduled to be released globally on February 13, 2026.

An industry source told Shukan Bunshun : “This is a project with a large investment and Ryoko is the soul of the film. If the investigation causes the release schedule to be postponed or canceled, the financial and reputational damage will be huge.”

Ryoko Yonekura was born in 1975 and began her career as a model before turning to acting. She is famous for her role as Dr. Michiko Daimon in the Doctor-X series and is the Japanese voice actress for several characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
