On the opening day of the world boxing championship on March 17, female boxer Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran won an impressive victory over Bulgarian boxer Poptoleva Venelina.
On March 19, another female boxer of the Vietnam Boxing team, Nguyen Thi Tam, also surprised the media and fans when she defeated former world champion Kzyaibay Nazym in the Light Flyweight category with an overwhelming score of 5-0.
Nguyen Thi Tam just won the Asian championship for the second time last year. However, Kzyaibay Nazym is rated higher as she was the world champion twice in 2014 and 2016, won the world bronze medal in 2012 and won the Asian championship in 2021.

However, entering the match, Nguyen Thi Tam showed confidence and did not hesitate to "retaliate" with her opponent. Although Kzyaibay Nazym often approached, Nguyen Thi Tam always moved quickly and launched many extremely accurate counterattacks to her opponent's face, thereby helping her receive 4/5 judges' scores to win in the first round.
In the second round, Nguyen Thi Tam continued to show her strength with quick, powerful right hooks to her opponent's head. In a hurry to get the score back, Kzyaibay Nazym had to endure many quality counterattacks from the Vietnamese fighter. This time, all 5 referees agreed that Nguyen Thi Tam was the winner in set 2.
Facing a big disadvantage, Kzyaibay Nazym pressed extremely strongly in the final set. However, Nguyen Thi Tam still kept her focus, moved to avoid attacks and continued to have some extremely powerful counterattacks.
In the end, all 5 judges awarded Nguyen Thi Tam the victory with scores of 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28, helping the Vietnamese boxer win 5-0 against the former world champion. Also on the same day, Nguyen Thi Thanh Hao had a 4-1 victory over Phiwokuhle Sbusisiwe Mnguni (Republic of South Africa) in the 57 kg weight class.
