Nunez has no future in Saudi Arabia. |
According to British media, the Uruguayan striker has begun negotiations to terminate his contract with the Saudi Arabian club by mutual agreement. The Uruguayan striker is willing to give up his enormous salary of up to £400,000 per week.
Despite being expected to become a leading star in Al-Hilal's attack, Nunez failed to adapt to the new football environment. Things became difficult after the club signed Karim Benzema in February.
Due to the Saudi Pro League's regulations limiting the number of foreign players, Al-Hilal was forced to remove several players from their registration list, and Nunez was directly affected. Since mid-February, the 26-year-old striker has not appeared in any official matches for the team. This has led Nunez to want to leave Al-Hilal sooner than expected.
The final decision will be made after the season concludes. For his part, Nunez is reportedly ready to return to Europe to salvage his career. Besides interest from several teams in Türkiye and other major leagues, a return to the Premier League has not been ruled out.
Before losing his place to Benzema, Nunez actually had a not-too-bad start. He scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists in 16 appearances in the Saudi Pro League. However, changes in the attacking lineup and fierce competition quickly led the former Liverpool star's journey in Saudi Arabia to a dead end.
