Clean water is slow to come to Muong Village

At the end of 2023, the self-flowing water project invested by the National Target Program for Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas was started, and the people of Lang Muong (Yen Trach Commune) hoped that they would soon have a clean water source for daily use. However, technical problems continued to occur with this project.

Officials of Yen Trach commune and Lang Muong hamlet inspected the upstream water collection tank.

The project started in 2023 and was completed and put into trial operation in mid-2024. According to the design, the system will ensure water supply for more than 100 households in the hamlet. However, the joy was not complete when technical problems occurred one after another.

The upstream water collection pit was buried by rocks and soil after the storm, and the pipes leading to people's homes were sometimes broken and sometimes leaking. Water could not flow steadily to households as expected. Mr. Vu Van Don, Secretary of the hamlet's Party Cell, could not hide his sadness: The project took a long time to complete, and after a few days of use, there was no water. The pipes were broken, water was lost, and people had high expectations, so everyone was disappointed.

Mr. Ma Van Dong, the village chief, shared the difficulties in the temporary operation: After a while of repair, the project broke down again. Once we turned on the water, the pipe broke, and water overflowed onto the muddy road in many places. People complained so much that we had to shut it down.

For the households here, clean water is not only a daily need but also an essential condition for taking care of children and maintaining hygiene in daily life. Therefore, the very sincere wish that Mr. Nguyen Van Dung expressed is also the common sentiment of many people: We always hope to have clean water to use soon.

The household's water column was built a long time ago but is still abandoned because clean water has not arrived.
The household's water hydrant was built a long time ago but is still abandoned because clean water "has not arrived yet".

After the incident, Yen Trach commune sent specialized staff to inspect, record the situation and develop a plan to fix it. Mr. Trieu Van Son, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The Commune People's Committee will direct a review of the entire pipeline, determine the exact location of the damage for synchronous repair, and soon bring water back to serve the people.

Although there are still many difficulties to overcome, it is worth noting that the local government has begun to take more drastic measures. The people of Lang Muong hamlet hope that the technical problems will be resolved so that the clean water project can truly be effective and serve the lives of the people.

Clean water drops, which seem normal in many places, are a great wish in a mountainous village, an ethnic minority area like Lang Muong. Hopefully, that wish will soon come true with close coordination between the government, the construction unit and the consensus of the people themselves.
