You only learn when you have children...

Having gotten married and settled abroad five years ago, after having a baby, Ngoc Linh (33 years old, living in Toronto, Canada) said: "These days, you can learn everything on YouTube. From preparing formula, breastfeeding, changing diapers, bathing... everything is available. At first, I was clumsy, but gradually I got used to the feeling of not having my mother around to guide me. Sometimes, after finishing everything, I realize I've been crying because only then do I truly understand the hardships of being a mother raising a child."

Although Tristan (Linh's husband) and friends are always willing to help, every time she holds her child in her arms, she is overwhelmed with emotion because she misses her parents so much.

"I've been studying and working far from home for over a decade, so I've always had to be independent and strong because I don't have my family by my side. But since having a baby, I've suddenly become very emotional, especially when I think about my parents," Ngoc Linh confided.

Sharing those same thoughts is the sentiment of Ms. Huyen Dieu (50 years old, Go Cong, Tien Giang ) regarding raising children and showing love for her parents.

Both of her sons were generally well-behaved, but they couldn't avoid the typical "moody" phases of adolescence. Sometimes they would get overly excited, staying out late and not answering their parents' calls; other times they would be terribly sad, locking themselves in their room all day without eating or drinking.

Not to mention her absent-mindedness due to her obsession with games, which makes me tired of constantly reminding her. And yet, there have been a few times when, at lunchtime, after setting everything on the table, I realized the rice cooker was plugged in, but my child hadn't... pressed the button.

"There were times when I was so angry I wanted to have a big fight, but then I remembered that I had been in similar situations in the past, but thanks to my parents being very understanding and supportive, I gradually overcame it. And it wasn't just a few people; there are about ten siblings in the family," Ms. Dieu confided.

Secretly loving my parents

When we were young, perhaps due to our carefree nature, few of us understood the hardships our parents endured.

Childhood is simply about studying, eating, and playing, so being cared for by parents is considered normal. Only when we grow up and start our own families do we truly understand what our parents went through. Raising a child is never easy. Raising one child is difficult enough; raising multiple children increases the difficulty exponentially.

In every era, no matter where they are or when, parents love their children unconditionally. Even when parents are old and frail, their eyesight failing, or their legs aching, the first people they think of are always the children they gave birth to.

And perhaps we all wish to be successful, to have a high income so that we can fully and completely take care of our parents. But it seems we have forgotten one thing: sometimes our parents don't need those things. They only need to see you healthy and safe; to have you by their side when they are sick; to share a meal with you—that's enough to bring them peace of mind.

With each passing day, we spend less and less time with our parents. It's time we dedicated more time and attention to them before it's too late.
