Dragon is the zodiac sign of the year of the Dragon 2024. In Eastern culture, the dragon represents authority, strength and prosperity.
Recently, a photo series of a kapok tree with a unique dragon shape in Thai Binh has received many shares. Mr. Tran Trong Cung, a local photographer, is the author of the photo series, saying that he took the dragon-shaped kapok tree at the end of March 2023. Many people were surprised by the unique shape of the tree and wanted to find an address to take pictures.
At this time, the cotton tree has not yet bloomed as brilliantly as in the picture.
The trunk of the ancient cotton tree is rough and has a strange shape. Many people imagine it as a dragon reaching up to the blue sky. As for the locals, they still call it "humpback cotton tree" due to its strange shape.
According to local people, the ancient cotton tree is about 700 years old. However, in reality, no expert has calculated the exact age of the tree.

For many years, the humpback cotton tree has become a popular tourist destination in Thai Thuy district. Many professional and amateur photographers from many provinces and cities have come here to work.
From Thai Binh city, visitors go along National Highway 39A along the Diem Ho River to get there. From this location, visitors can conveniently visit the ancient double cotton tree located in Kien Xuong district, which is also very close.

According to word of mouth, the tree has an unusual shape due to the effects of storms and bombs from war. Having gone through many historical events, the hundred-year-old kapok tree, like a "living witness", still stands firm and steadfast, blooming regularly around March every year.

Because the tree's unusual position could even cause it to fall during heavy storms, the local government and residents have built two concrete pillars to support it.
Behind is a small tea shop that is over 40 years old, owned by Mrs. Chung. This is also a familiar grocery store for the locals.

Every year in March, when the weather is still a bit chilly, the bare branches of the rice trees, which have shed all their leaves in the cold season, now bloom with young green buds. Between the treetops, the flowers bloom bright red, like a fire between heaven and earth.
Many tourists choose to wear pure white ao dai to take photos under the canopy of a hundred-year-old kapok tree.

In the minds of many people, the image of the ancient cotton tree is associated with the peaceful scenery of the Northern countryside.
According to Mr. Nguyen Trong Cung, in addition to the humpback cotton tree, tourists can also visit the famous double cotton tree in Quang Binh commune, Kien Xuong district. In Thai Thuy, tourists should not miss Vo Cuc beach, a "newly emerging" tourist destination in recent times.
When the cotton flowers appear and then wither and fall all over the ground, it is also the moment signaling that the cold days are about to pass, giving way to the warm sunshine of early summer.
