Michael Olise caused a stir on Brazilian social media when he declared he "didn't know" who the best Selecao player was ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Olise's statement angered many Brazilians.

Bayern Munich and France star Michael Olise became the focus of controversy after a video of an interaction was posted on Bayern's E-Sports channel on May 24th.

At the beginning of the video, Olise takes on the challenge of choosing the best player from several major teams at the World Cup, selecting Harry Kane as the best player for England and Joshua Kimmich for Germany.

However, when asked about Brazil, he didn't name any. The 24-year-old midfielder surprisingly omitted "Selecao" with a brief answer: "I don't know."

Olise then went on to select Lamine Yamal for Spain, Lionel Messi for Argentina, and Bruno Fernandes for Portugal.

The clip quickly went viral on social media, garnering over 15 million views and around 16,000 comments. The majority of Brazilian fans expressed their displeasure with Olise's statement.

"Neymar probably doesn't exist for him," one commenter wrote. Another wrote: "You'll know who Brazil's number one player is when the World Cup comes."

Not only was the answer regarding Brazil controversial, but Olise's choice of Bruno Fernandes over Cristiano Ronaldo for the Portuguese national team also provoked a strong reaction from many fans.

Olise just had a stellar season with Bayern Munich, scoring 22 goals and providing 26 assists in 52 appearances across all competitions. He is considered one of France's biggest hopes for the 2026 World Cup.

France is in Group I along with Senegal, Norway, and Iraq. Meanwhile, Brazil is in Group C with Morocco, Scotland, and Haiti. According to the current bracket, the two teams could potentially face each other in the knockout round if neither finishes top of their group.
