Onana upsets MU's plans

Manchester United face a difficult problem in the goalkeeper position after Andre Onana suffered a hamstring injury in the latest training session.

Onana will miss the tour and the start of the 2025/26 season.

According to The Athletic , the Cameroonian goalkeeper is expected to be out for 6 to 8 weeks, likely missing the Premier League opener against Arsenal on August 17.

Coach Ruben Amorim is considering adding a goalkeeper to his squad to ensure squad depth ahead of the US tour. Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton are the two current options, while Radek Vitek, a young goalkeeper who has just returned from Austria, could feature in the friendlies. However, Bayindir's inconsistent form has left the coaching staff worried.

United had previously been told they had no plans to replace Onana, despite his £47.2m move from Inter Milan. He was dropped from the starting line-up under Erik ten Hag and continued to disappoint against Lyon in the Europa League.

Now, some of the names being tracked by the "Red Devils" include Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa, Senne Lammens of Antwerp or Lucas Chevalier from Lille. However, negotiations with Villa about Martinez have not progressed due to the transfer fee.

Man United hope to have a clear decision before entering the series of friendly matches and stabilizing the squad for the 2025/26 season.
