Mr. Gianni Infantino re-elected FIFA President for a third term

On March 16, with the majority of support from member federations, Mr. Gianni Infantino was re-elected President of the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) for the 2023-2027 term.

At the 73rd FIFA Congress held in Rwanda, incumbent President Infantino was the only candidate for this position and he received high confidence from the congress. Accordingly, he will continue to hold the power to run the world's largest football organization for another 4 years in his third consecutive term as FIFA President.

During his previous term, Infantino has made major changes to the development of world football. He was also instrumental in expanding the number of teams participating in the men's World Cup from 32 to 48 from 2026, while the number of teams participating in the women's World Cup increased from 24 to 32 from 2023.

In addition to electing the new FIFA President, the 73rd FIFA Congress also approved the annual report, voted to approve the budget for the 2023-2026 period; approved important decisions related to the competition format of the 2026 World Cup; approved amendments related to the registration period and protection for unemployed football players...; agreed to study more feasible adjustments to ensure the health of female players. In addition, this Congress also announced regulations related to the FIFA talent development project, with an investment budget of 200 million USD from now until 2026.

The 73rd FIFA Congress was attended by representatives of national football federations around the world. Attending the event, the delegation of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) included President Tran Quoc Tuan, General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi and Deputy General Secretary Nguyen Minh Chau.

This is also the second time the FIFA Congress is held in an African country.
