According to AFP news agency, in his speech to the nation, President Macron firmly rejected the opposition's call to resign, affirming that he will "fully" hold the position of head of state of France until the end of his term.
The French leader made it clear: “The mandate you democratically entrusted to me (in the 2022 elections) is a five-year mandate… I will carry out this mandate fully, to the end.”
In addition, President Macron said he had accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, after Mr. Barnier was ousted in a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly .
The French leader has pledged to appoint a prime minister in the coming days who will be responsible for forming a “government for the common good” with the priority of passing the budget.
While waiting for a new government to be formed, President Macron asked Mr. Barnier to lead an interim government to deal with current issues.
In addition, the head of the Élysée Palace also criticized far-right and far-left groups in France for forming an "anti-republican front" to overthrow Mr. Barnier's government.
According to Mr. Macron, the far-right National Rally (RN) party of Ms. Marine Le Pen is only focused on the 2027 presidential election, accusing the party of trying to sow "chaos".
However, the Élysée Palace chief also accepted responsibility for his decision to call early parliamentary elections this summer, which resulted in no party winning a majority in France's legislature.
Mr Barnier only took office as French prime minister in September after snap parliamentary elections in June saw the far-right defeat the ruling coalition and become the party that decides the survival of the government.
Given the far-right's position, whoever President Macron appoints as the next French Prime Minister is likely to follow in Mr Barnier's footsteps when trying to pass the budget plan.
