Chairman of the United Russia party Medvedev emphasized that developing relations with Vietnam is one of Russia's top priorities, when meeting withPresident Vo Van Thuong.
President Vo Van Thuong today received Chairman of the United Russia Party and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federal Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from May 21-23, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs .
President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that Vietnam consistently pursues a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization and diversification. Vietnam always remembers the support and assistance of the people of the former Soviet Union, attaches importance to the Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership, and wishes to continue developing the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia.

Chairman of the United Russia Party Dmitry Medvedev affirmed that Russia attaches great importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam. Senior Russian leaders, including those of the United Russia Party, believe that developing relations with Vietnam is one of the top priorities and that Vietnam is an important partner of Russia in the region.
President Vo Van Thuong thanked Russia for continuing to provide annual scholarships for Vietnamese students to study at Russian educational institutions. The two leaders agreed to continue promoting people-to-people exchanges, including among the younger generation, and promoting the role of friendship associations between the two countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Dmitry Medvedev at the government headquarters this afternoon, saying that Mr. Medvedev's visit to Vietnam is an opportunity for the two sides to discuss cooperation to enhance mutual understanding and continue to agree on measures to further improve the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation.
Mr. Medvedev said that the United Russia Party always supports the development of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, maintaining and strengthening traditional areas of cooperation, expanding cooperation in the fields of economics - trade, investment, culture, tourism, local cooperation, people-to-people exchange... The two sides believe that it is necessary to promote and deepen bilateral cooperation in areas such as energy, oil and gas, science - technology, education - training...
Mrs. Truong Thi Mai, Member of the Politburo, Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat, Head of the Central Organization Commission hosted a reception tonight for Mr. Dmitry Medvedev.
Mr. Medvedev officially visited Vietnam from May 21-23 under the Cooperation Agreement between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the United Russia Party. This is Mr. Medvedev's first visit to Vietnam as Chairman of Russia's ruling party.
According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, by the end of 2022, Russia had 164 investment projects in Vietnam with a total investment of 965.8 million USD, ranking 27th out of 140 countries and territories with direct investment in Vietnam. Vietnam invested in Russia with 5 projects with a total investment of 528 million USD in the fields of industry, processing and manufacturing.
In 2023, Russia will offer 1,000 scholarships to Vietnamese students. Currently, there are about 5,000 Vietnamese students studying in Russia.
