Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that Donald Trump could be assassinated like former US President John F. Kennedy if he is re-elected and seeks to end the conflict in Ukraine.
In a post on the Telegram channel on November 3, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, currently Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, said Moscow does not have high expectations for the results of the US presidential election on November 5, where Mr. Trump is facing Ms. Kamala Harris.
Mr. Trump was shot during a campaign rally in July in Pennsylvania.
According to RT, Mr. Medvedev believes that for Russia, this election will not change anything because the positions of both candidates completely reflect the bipartisan consensus in the US that Russia must be defeated.
Former President Medvedev said that Mr. Trump, who appeared "exhausted" during the campaign, had made "banal statements" about the prospects for peace in Ukraine and his supposedly good relations with world leaders. However, if re-elected, Mr. Trump could be forced to adhere to all the principles of the system and not be able to end the war.
"Not in one day, three days or three months. And if he really wants (to end the Ukraine conflict), he can become a new JFK," Medvedev wrote, referring to the initials of the late President John F. Kennedy, who was elected in 1960 and assassinated in 1963.
US Election: What will be the policy on Ukraine under the new president?
During the campaign, Mr. Trump repeatedly vowed to end the conflict in Ukraine in a short time if elected, although he did not specify a plan. His opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, said that Mr. Trump could force Ukraine to surrender.
The Kremlin has expressed skepticism about Mr Trump’s claim, insisting there is no magic wand to help him do that. As for Ms Harris, Mr Medvedev assessed her as “inexperienced and controllable”.
In an interview with RT last week, Medvedev said that "if Western countries, especially the United States, had been flexible and wise enough to reach a security agreement with Russia, there would have been no special military operation (in Ukraine)." He also said that the US and its allies failed to realize this in time because they have a habit of forcing others to obey and operate according to the US's top interests.
