BSR people's hearts in the middle of the forest - Adding a bridge of love between the sea and the forest

Amidst the sudden chill of the last days of July in the border commune, each step of the delegation of Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company (BSR) seemed to light up the warmth of affection. The journey to give gifts in gratitude on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025) brought BSR workers to Mang Den commune and Bo Y commune - remote border areas of "new Quang Ngai", which had just been merged from Kon Tum province according to the Central Government's policy.

When the heart is spread

Over the years, BSR has continuously expanded its community-oriented activities, especially after the establishment of Quang Ngai province under the Central Government's policy. BSR 's attention has not only stopped at the coastal areas - where Dung Quat Oil Refinery operates, but has also reached out to border communes, where there are people who need more special attention. One of them is Bo Y commune - a commune located on the border of Quang Ngai province, bordering Laos and Cambodia.

BSR Chairman Bui Ngoc Duong (far left) presents gifts of gratitude to wounded soldiers and policy families in Mang Den commune.

Bo Y has an area of over 242 km² and a population of up to 35,375 people. Here, people's lives are still very difficult, especially for more than 270 families of policy beneficiaries and wounded soldiers. The difficult days, the wounds still deeply imprinted on the bodies of the veterans, now still need care and attention from society.

That is why, in the program of activities on the occasion of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27), BSR not only presented meaningful gifts but also expressed deep gratitude to those who once fought heroically on the battlefield. This is an act of gratitude for the great contributions and boundless sacrifices of those who went before, those who contributed to preserving every inch of land and forest of the Fatherland.

Sharing about this meaningful activity, Mr. Nguyen Viet Thang - General Director of BSR, said: “We are very concerned about the newly merged lands into Quang Ngai - where people still face many difficulties, and also the place that was soaked with sweat and blood of many generations of fathers and brothers in the resistance war for national independence. Therefore, we hope that the small gifts from BSR workers will contribute to spreading love and connecting the sea and the great forest, between today's generation and those who sacrificed for the Fatherland. And from here, BSR commits to continue to accompany the sustainable development of Quang Ngai - not only in the core industrial area, but also in new lands, highlands, and border areas with many difficulties".

The gift-giving ceremony took place in an emotional atmosphere. Vice Chairman of Bo Y Commune People's Committee, Ms. Tran Thi Huyen shared: "We would like to express our sincere thanks to Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company and you for your special attention to our people. Especially the policy beneficiaries and war invalids. These gifts are not only material support but also great sharing and encouragement for the people in the border areas. We feel the heart of the Company through each gift, through each thoughtful word."

Veterans with touching stories

What made this trip more meaningful were the touching stories we heard from veterans who sacrificed their youth for the country.

Veteran A De was moved when holding the gift from BSR Company.

We met Mr. A De, a nearly 90-year-old veteran, a Mo Nam ethnic, born in Hieu commune (now living in Mang Den commune). He fought in the Central Highlands battlefield in 1965-1966. Currently, he is a disabled soldier, receiving monthly benefits from the State but his life is still difficult. When we asked: "Do you know Dung Quat Oil Refinery, where gasoline is produced?". He smiled gently and shook his head, indicating that he did not know. However, he pointed to the gift he had just received, his eyes looking at us as if asking: "Is this the place that gave me the gift?". We smiled and nodded. Perhaps, the sudden coldness of Mang Den mountain town has gradually given way to the warmth of BSR people spreading in the difficult communes of the new Quang Ngai province.

In Bo Y commune, we met veteran Nguyen Van Tao, a soldier who fought in the Southern Laos and Southwest battlefields. Having lost his left leg in an enemy sweep, he is now a 2/4 disabled veteran. Looking at him, we could not help but choke up. Veterans like him, who sacrificed their youth for the Fatherland, still have many hardships in life. But the warmth and sharing from the community, from kind-hearted people like BSR, have somewhat soothed his physical and mental wounds on July 27.

The people in the border areas, the soldiers of the past, do not care too much about the big things as well as the name or reputation of anyone, the factory or the enterprise. What they care about is the sincerity, the affection that we give them. The gifts from BSR are not only material, but also the encouragement of today's generation to inherit the fruits of peace for the generation that fought and sacrificed for the people and the country. Therefore, veterans like Mr. Tao and Mr. A De, although they do not understand much about BSR and Dung Quat Oil Refinery, still feel the gratitude and respect that BSR workers have for them on this occasion.

Mr. Bui Ngoc Duong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of BSR Company shared at the gift-giving ceremony: “This is a meaningful trip, not only helping us understand more about the lives of people in the border areas but also showing our gratitude to the veterans who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. BSR always respects and appreciates the contributions of previous generations, and we hope that, through specific actions, we will continue to contribute to warming the hearts of those who once devoted their youth to the country”.

BSR Deputy General Director Pham Minh Nghia presents gifts to veteran Nguyen Van Tao, Bo Y commune.

The trip not only brought meaningful gifts, but also contained the sharing and solidarity of a business that always looks towards the community. From the Dung Quat coastal area, BSR's heart has reached the great forest, so that the lowlands hold hands with the highlands, so that prosperity does not stop at the industrial center, but continues to spread to new lands - where it is gradually joining the common development of Quang Ngai in the journey of expanding its boundaries, expanding its development space, and expanding its heart to receive and nurture new humanistic values.

Hopefully, the hearts of BSR employees will continue to spread, becoming a beautiful message of solidarity, sharing and love in the community. That is not only a humane beauty, but also a vivid embodiment of the core values of Petrovietnam Culture "Aspiration - Intelligence - Professionalism - Compassion" that Petrovietnam and BSR are building, nurturing and spreading. It is these values that will continue to support BSR on the journey of sustainable development, not only for the purpose of growth, but also for a greater mission - serving the country and accompanying the people on every stage of development.
