On the afternoon of July 29, after many days of working with a 37-room hotel on the edge of Cam Thanh coconut forest, a group of tourists from Ho Chi Minh City had to regretfully cancel their trip to Hoi An and Da Nang in mid-August because they could not find enough rooms as requested.
Hotels and resorts in Hoi An and Da Nang are all fully booked.
On online booking platforms, the area displaying results for Hoi An and Da Nang accommodation from August onwards still has quite a few rooms. However, when selecting specific dates, most of the actual accommodation areas are no longer accepting guests.
On the afternoon of July 29, a guest contacted an 84-room accommodation on the outskirts of Hoi An ancient town to book a room for a group of 70 people traveling to Hoi An in mid-August. The management representative said most of the rooms were booked a month in advance.
"This year, the rooms have been fully booked since the beginning of summer, mostly from groups of travel agencies. For the past 2-3 months, we have received calls from a large number of domestic and international groups to book rooms, but we cannot accept any more. There is only a small amount of spare rooms left for foreign affairs," said the owner of the accommodation in Hoi An ward.

The general manager of a 5-star resort on Hoi An beach also said that the rooms have been fully booked for more than 2 months. "We get calls almost every day for reservations, but we don't dare accept many.

The number of spare rooms is only 10-20%, most of which are used to welcome family guests on a rotating basis. There are many calls to book group tours with large numbers that cannot be accommodated" - said the general manager of a 5-star resort in Hoi An Tay.
The owner of an accommodation area in the middle of An My rice fields, Hoi An Tay ward (Da Nang city) also said that the number of room reservations has increased dramatically since the beginning of summer. The guests are mainly from some countries in Southeast Asia, Asia and domestic guests from Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang...
Peak season rules "Western guests, Vietnamese guests" in Hoi An, Da Nang?

Statistics from hotels show that the majority of bookings are domestic. This is partly explained by the fact that this is the peak season for domestic tourism. Many companies specializing in international tourism say that there are very few European, American, Australian, etc. visitors to the Central region this season.
However, owners of large accommodation areas in Hoi An said that the scarcity of rooms this year in both the high-end segment and large resorts is quite different from the long-standing rule.
"Domestic tourists or tourists from nearby Da Nang, Hue... have long booked homestays, villas or low-cost accommodations to save costs.
In fact, recently in Hoi An, many luxury resorts are always fully booked. What is surprising is that when you go there, you will see that there are many Vietnamese guests, not foreigners.
"Clearly, the demand for travel and spending of domestic tourists has increased significantly compared to before. The structure of tourist flows has clearly shifted through each tourist season since COVID-19," said a representative of a travel agency in Da Nang.
Not only in Hoi An, large accommodation areas with rooms costing millions of VND per night in Da Nang have also been at near capacity for the past several weeks. Da Nang Tourism Association statistics show that in June and July, room occupancy in Da Nang averaged over 80%, with domestic guests accounting for a very large proportion.
Da Nang tourism industry requires supervision of "third-party" booking units
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City, Van Ba Son, said that he has just issued a document requesting accommodation establishments to tighten room sales and services.
According to Mr. Son, recently there have been many complaints from tourists when booking rooms at tourist accommodation establishments through travel partners, collaborators and websites, online room sales platforms (referred to as third parties).
To ensure a safe tourism environment, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City has requested that all units review all room sales activities through third parties. Room sellers must provide specific and clear information to customers about the place where they intend to use the service.
Accommodation areas need to post clear information on their websites, fanpages..., absolutely not allowing the situation of selling rooms beyond capacity, especially during the holidays.
In addition, accommodation establishments must be responsible for ensuring full business conditions; not allowing any complaints related to room bookings and quality to occur, affecting the image of Da Nang tourism.
