3 consecutive championships, a record that is difficult to break
Not many teams can maintain their dominance in a regional tournament for three consecutive times, especially at the U.23 level, when the force always has constant fluctuations in terms of personnel. However, U.23 Vietnam is facing the opportunity to do that. If they overcome the host U.23 Indonesia in the final match taking place at 8:00 p.m. on July 29, the Golden Star team will make a hat-trick of winning the U.23 Southeast Asian Championship, after the years 2022 and 2023. This is an unprecedented achievement in the history of the tournament, and could very well become a milestone that is difficult to surpass in the future.
At present, U.23 Vietnam also holds the record with 2 consecutive championships. Meanwhile, the leading football teams in the region such as U.23 Thailand and U.23 Indonesia have only won this tournament once, after 4 times of organization. U.23 Thailand was crowned in 2005 (the first time it was organized), while U.23 Indonesia was crowned in 2019.

Coach Kim Sang-sik reached the top at both national team levels
Not only bringing glory to the youth team, Coach Kim Sang-sik is facing a symbolic milestone. If he wins the title with U.23 Vietnam in this tournament, he will become the first head coach in the history of Vietnamese football to win the Southeast Asian championship at both the national team and U.23 levels, and within just 8 months.
Coach Kim Sang-sik: 'With proper preparation, U.23 Vietnam will win'
Previously, Mr. Kim led the Vietnamese team to the AFF Cup 2024. And now, the Korean coach has the opportunity to double the glory with the U.23 Southeast Asian title.

Compared to Coach Park Hang-seo, who is considered the most successful in the history of Vietnamese football, Coach Kim Sang-sik is also on a journey to stand shoulder to shoulder with his predecessor. Mr. Park once helped U.23 Vietnam win the 31st SEA Games (held in Vietnam in 2022) and the 2018 AFF Cup, but these two achievements took place nearly 4 years apart. However, the SEA Games is a regional sports event, not an arena exclusively for football.
Not only the team or coach Kim Sang-sik, but also striker Nguyen Quoc Viet himself is getting very close to a special milestone. This is the third consecutive U.23 Southeast Asian tournament for the striker who was once nicknamed "king of youth tournaments". If he and U.23 Vietnam win against U.23 Indonesia, Quoc Viet will also have a hat-trick of championships, with 3 consecutive times winning the U.23 Southeast Asian tournament.
