Mr. Trinh Van Chien has been stripped of his title as Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province.

The Prime Minister has disciplined Mr. Trinh Van Chien by revoking his title as Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province for the period 2010-2014 due to violations and shortcomings in his work, and the Central Committee of the Communist Party has already imposed disciplinary action against him.

On January 11, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed Decision No. 35/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on disciplinary action against Mr. Trinh Van Chien, former Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province. According to this decision, the Prime Minister decided to impose disciplinary action in the form of revoking Mr. Chien's title as Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province for the period 2010-2014 due to violations and shortcomings in his work, and following disciplinary action taken by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The disciplinary action takes effect from the date of the announcement of Decision No. 992-QDNS/TW dated October 3, 2023, of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Previously, on October 2, 2023, at the 8th Conference, the Central Executive Committee decided to remove all Party positions from Mr. Trinh Van Chien, former Central Committee member, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, former Secretary of the Party Group, former Chairman of the Provincial People's Council, former Secretary of the Party Committee, and former Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province.

According to the Politburo , the Standing Committee of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee for the terms 2010-2015 and 2015-2020 violated the principle of democratic centralism, Party regulations, State laws, and working regulations in approving investment policies, planning, and adjusting the planning of several land-use projects of FLC Group Joint Stock Company; approving and implementing public investment projects under the smart city scheme; in land management and use and the implementation of the Hac Thanh Tower project; in personnel work; and in leading the declaration and public disclosure of assets and income.

The Standing Committee of the Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee also lacked responsibility, neglected leadership and guidance, and failed to inspect and supervise, allowing the Party Group of the Provincial People's Council, the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee, and many organizations and individuals to violate Party regulations and State laws.

The Politburo affirmed that Mr. Trinh Van Chien had deteriorated in terms of political ideology, morality, and lifestyle; violated the principle of democratic centralism, working regulations, Party regulations, State laws, regulations on what Party members are not allowed to do, and the responsibility of setting an example, causing very serious consequences that are difficult to remedy, causing great damage to the state budget, public outrage, and negatively affecting the prestige of the Party organization and local government.
