OpenAI officially launches Sora

Accordingly, Sora is an AI model that converts text to video as part of a 12-day "ship-mas" product launch. The app is currently available on Sora.com for ChatGPT subscribers in the US and most other countries, and a new model – Sora Turbo – is also available. This updated model adds features such as creating videos from text, image animation, and video merging.

OpenAI first revealed its text-to-video AI model, Sora, in February of this year. During a live stream, OpenAI showcased Sora's new discovery with a feed of AI-generated videos from other members of the community.

OpenAI also revealed a "storyboards" feature that allows users to create videos based on a sequence of prompts, as well as turn photos into videos. In addition, the tool allows users to fine-tune Sora's output using text prompts, along with a way to blend two scenes together using AI.

According to OpenAI, videos created using Sora will have watermarks and C2PA metadata indicating they were created using AI. Before uploading images or videos to the app, users must agree to an agreement that the uploaded content will not contain material for those under 18 years of age. Violations may result in bans or account suspensions.

OpenAI states that users with a ChatGPT Plus subscription can create up to 50 5-second-long, 720p-resolution, sponsored videos. Users with the ChatGPT Pro plan, priced at $200 per month, can create up to 500 20-second-long, 1080p-resolution sponsored videos. Additionally, the Pro plan allows subscribers to download videos without watermarks.

Users who haven't registered for ChatGPT can still browse AI-generated video feeds created by others using Sora. The model is currently available in the US and many other countries, but it will take time to roll out to European countries and the UK.
