(CLO) When OpenAI began introducing GPT-4 technology in late 2022, its capabilities surprised even seasoned AI researchers.
The system could answer questions, compose poetry, and write computer code in ways far beyond the expectations of its time.

More than two years later, OpenAI has announced its successor: GPT-4.5. This new technology marks the end of an era, as OpenAI claims that this will be the last version of its chatbot system that does not use “chain-of-thought reasoning.”
After this version, OpenAI's technology will likely act more like humans, spending more time thinking about questions before answering, rather than responding immediately.
GPT-4.5, which powers the most expensive version of ChatGPT, probably won't be as big a hit as GPT-4, largely because the AI research field has moved on to new trends. However, OpenAI says the technology will deliver a more "natural" experience than previous chatbots.
“What makes this model different is its ability to engage in warmer, more intuitive, more natural conversations. We believe it better understands the user’s intent when they make a request,” said Mia Glaese, vice president of research at OpenAI.
Last fall, the company introduced OpenAI o1 technology, which is designed to handle tasks related to math, programming, and science . The new technology is part of a broader effort to build AI that can reason about complex tasks. Companies like Google, Meta, and DeepSeek are also developing similar technology.
GPT-4.5 is being launched amid an increasingly fierce AI race among tech giants. Google has been continuously improving its Gemini model, Meta has been pushing open-source AI development, while Chinese companies such as DeepSeek, Baidu and Tencent have also been constantly boosting their competitiveness. The shift in the way AI processes information - from instant feedback to deeper thinking - could significantly affect the way humans interact with this technology in the future.
