After nearly two years of pressure and suspicion, the Brazilian could soon be cleared. The English Football Association (FA) even faces the possibility of having to pay up to £1 million in legal fees for the player.
West Ham are said to be furious with the FA's delay, while the 27-year-old himself is awaiting an official announcement, expected early next week.
The charges against Paqueta stem from four yellow cards he received in matches between November 2022 and August 2023 - coinciding with irregular betting activity discovered on the Brazilian island of Paqueta, where he was born.
In total, more than £100,000 in winnings were recorded relating to Paqueta's yellow cards in games against Leicester, Aston Villa, Leeds and Bournemouth.
The FA launched its investigation in mid-2023, and Paqueta was charged in May last year. However, it was not until March 2025 - after the end of the Premier League season - that the hearing took place, with the participation of many witnesses, including former manager David Moyes.
The incident severely affected Paqueta's career and spirit. He once burst into tears on the pitch after receiving a yellow card in a match against Tottenham in May, and his wife also spoke out, calling this period "a nightmare that lasted for two years".
In addition, the £85 million transfer deal from West Ham to Man City also fell through when the investigation was leaked, causing Paqueta to miss the biggest opportunity of his career.
