Strive to make English a compulsory subject from grade 1

Accordingly, in the project about to be approved by the Government, English is stipulated as an elective subject from grade 1. At an appropriate time, with adequate facilities and teachers, the education sector will make English a compulsory subject from grade 1, instead of from grade 3 as at present.

Ho Chi Minh City is currently a pioneer in this. In recent years, the city has introduced English to preschool children. This is suitable for making English the second foreign language in schools. Because to learn a foreign language well, children need to be introduced to it early. This has also been an elective subject for students from grade 1 throughout the past.

In the high school graduation exam, Ho Chi Minh City is continuously in the top group in terms of English results. This year, the average score of students in the city (after the merger) ranked second in the country.
