Digital transformation is gradually creating strong changes in the world and DTC application is becoming an important breakthrough in the Finnish aviation industry. (Source: NFCW) |
The Digital Travel Credentials (DTC) application is a digital version of a regular passport and is equally reliable. Its purpose is to allow travelers to quickly complete immigration procedures without the risk of security breaches, while reducing waiting times and queuing, thereby increasing the efficiency of airport operations.
The DTC pilot program has been running since late August. FBG, Finnair, Finnish police, and Finavia airport are jointly implementing the program, which is funded by the European Union (EU).
Passengers travelling on Finnair flights from Helsinki Airport to three UK cities – London, Edinburgh and Manchester – can now use their DTC to clear immigration, instead of their regular passports, allowing them to pass through border security more quickly.
To participate in the pilot program, passengers need to download a DTC storage application. Users must then register their identification number (ID) with their physical passport through licensing services at the Vantaa Main police department.
Passengers must also sign a consent form and have their photo taken for facial recognition; at the same time, relevant data from the above app must be sent to FBG before the flight.
Finnish authorities still note that, as this is a pilot operation, passengers should still carry their regular paper passports, in case of technical problems.
