After a three-day ceasefire to celebrate Victory Day on May 9, fighting continues to rage. On the battlefield in Donetsk province, the Russian army continues to fiercely attack the city of Chasov Yar in the west of Donetsk province. According to the Russian Rybar channel, 85% of the city of Chasov Yar is now under the control of the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF). At the same time, the Russian army is also actively expanding the area of control of the city's outskirts in the southern region and has captured a number of Ukrainian military bases. According to Russian soldiers' social media channels, Ukrainian units in Chasov Yar are determined to fight and hold their ground; RFAF, although advancing slowly, is still persistently advancing step by step and is gradually gaining control of the village of Stupochki. The Russian infantry's assault on the village of Stupochki met with fierce resistance from the Ukrainian Army (AFU), and the Russians had to use TOS Solntsepek heavy-caliber thermobaric artillery. A video has been released showing TOS Solntsepek thermobaric artillery shelling Ukrainian defense positions near Chasov Yar at night. The importance of the Chasov Yar stronghold is unquestionable, given the city's high terrain; if the RFAF were to take full control of the city of Chasov Yar, it would open the way for them to penetrate deep into the AFU defenses in the rest of Donetsk Oblast, attacking Konstantinovka, Kramatorsk and Slavyansk. Not far south of Chasov Yar, RFAF units have intensified their offensive operations in the direction of Kostiantynivka. Currently, the Russian troops have advanced about 3-3.5 km from the Nelepovka bank and have reached the edge of the village of Romanivka, located next to the H20 highway from Donetsk to Kostiantynivka. From Romanivka to Konstantinovka is less than 14 km in a straight line; more significantly, from here the Russians could reach the southern part of the Kleban-Bykske Reservoir, which was considered the southern line of defense of the city of Kostiantynivka. However, the RFAF controlled an additional 11 km2 in this front area. The RFAF's thrust from the southeast to Romanivka, along with the simultaneous expansion of the western flank in the Olexandropol area, formed a fire encirclement of the Ukrainian forces defending the village of Zorya, located across the H20 road. If previously, the supply of AFU units in Zorya passed through Romanivka, now, as the Russian troops approached Romanivka, this route became extremely difficult for the Ukrainian troops to continue using; thus forcing the AFU to use roads through the fields to supply the Zorya stronghold. The Ukrainian Deep State channel said that if Kiev does not reach a ceasefire in the coming days, the Ukrainian army will lose both Romanivka and Zorya. And thus, the lid on the "cauldron" south of Zarya will be closed. Deep State also said that the attack on Konstantinovka is also taking place in the southwest - from the Novoolenivka bridgehead, which was previously captured by the Russians. In the southernmost region of Donetsk, from the Velyka Novosyolka bridgehead captured by the RFAF not long ago, Russian troops are advancing along the Mokrye Yaly River north of the village of Dneproenergiya, to the southern outskirts of the village of Komar; forming a siege with the Dneproenergiya area. Currently, along the H15 route from Kurakhove to Zaporozhye, the RFAF has taken control of most of the village of Bogatyr, while on the right flank, approaching the village of Komar, the RFAF's Vostok Group is forming a pincer encirclement of the Ukrainian army in the village of Otradnoye. The village of Komar lies on the H15 road leading to the Zaporizhia region; to the north of Komar, about 8 km away, is Dnepropetrovsk Oblast, President Zelensky’s hometown. Capturing Komar would give the Russians the opportunity to attack the main AFU logistics hub in the east of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, Novopavlivka. At present, the H15 road near Komar is under fire control of the Vostok/RFAF Group. Russia’s Military Summary channel reported that the Expendables Brigade, part of the RFAF’s Central Group of Forces, has captured the village of Kotlyarivka, located in the “westernmost” part of Donetsk Oblast, just 2.5 kilometers from Dnepropetrovsk Oblast. The area is located between Pokrovsk and Velyka Novosyolk. Supported by heavy artillery fire, the RFAF Expendables Brigade broke through the Ukrainian defenses at Kotlyarivka and took full control of the village. After capturing Kotlyarivka, the Russians continued to advance westward. Currently, from the west of Kotlyarivka to the border of Dnepropetrovsk province, there is a flat field; therefore, the Russian army can attack Dnepropetrovsk, or attack the flank of the Ukrainian army defending the village of Muravka in Donetsk. If nothing changes, in a few days, the Russian army will officially enter Dnepropetrovsk province, President Zelensky's hometown.
